The pandemic may not be that scary, but the brutal policies of the CCP certainly are. China is known for its ruthless policies that cause tragedy, human suffering and public anger. This time, the ruling Communist party under the leadership of President Xi, has come up with something that’d shame even the worst of dictators.
China’s absurd policy
On June 2, nine governmental bodies of Fangchebggang city in China’s southwestern province of Guangxi jointly issued the official joint Pandemic control notice on their social media accounts. These bodies include the Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection, the Public Security Bureau and the Dongxing Customs Anti-Smuggling Branch and others.
Article 6 of the notice states that anyone infected with Covid-19 or someone found helping those affected with Covid-19 cross the border will be charged with endangering public safety, which is punishable with death, fines and confiscation of properties.

Outrage among the public
These notices saw a great discontent among the people of China, which to be honest, was obvious. The policy drew flak and disapproval which was visible on social media. However, this subsequently led to the take down of the notice from the official accounts of the local authorities on June 3.
Netizens questioned the legitimacy of death penalty and questioned whether the local authorities have the right of convicting someone and sentencing to death.
One post read, “Is there any legal basis for it?” Another person said in a post, “They need to understand the law in the first place. The power to determine death penalty is in the Supreme Court, not in a local small town’s government.”
A third person wrote, “In fact, the epidemic is not scary at all, but people’s hearts are much more scary.”

China being China
Even though this is something unprecedented, it’s not new. There have been several instances where the CCP has implicated its brutal policies against citizens who violated the Covid-19 regulations. Last December in Baise, another city in Guangxi province that borders Vietnam, authorities paraded four residents (who allegedly violated the local covid-19 restrictions) for hanging placards around their necks displaying their names and photos.
The four residents were paraded by the local police officers on the streets full of people and surrounded by armed riot police. The CCP did not stop here. It went on posting the videos and photos of the shameful parades online as a part of the punishment. This attracted nationwide attention and criticism.
Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the CCP has adopted various Covid preventive measures including citywide mass lockdowns, suspension of medical services, sticking seals on the doors of the doors of the residences of Covide-19 patients, and welding doors of residential buildings shut where cases were found, among others.
Policies of the CCP have not only caused the a series of economic disasters, they’ve also become the reason for the anger amongst the Chinese people.
