Saskatchewan faction of the NDP is going to dump Jagmeet and join the conservatives

Jagmeet Singh has been ousted by his own party in Saskatchewan. The Saskatchewan faction of the NDP is tired of Jagmeet’s agendas and policies rather than the reality on the ground. Singh’s power has already been threatened by Pierre Poiliviere at the federal level and now he is losing ground in provinces too.

Is this the end of Jagmeet Singh’s political career?

The Saskatchewan NDP eighty-fourth annual Convention is taking place from October 21st to 23rd in Saskatoon.

The official website of the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party regarding the convention reads, “Be part of building a better Saskatchewan for everyone.”

But guess what, who does the Saskatchewan party not deem fit to make a better Saskatchewan?

The Leader of the federal NDP himself: Jagmeet Singh.

The provincial council of the Saskatchewan NDP has decided to withdraw Jagmeet Singh’s invitation to the party convention.

The Saskatchewan NDP had initially intended to invite Singh to the party convention but decided against it due to worries that the national NDP’s standing would hinder the provincial NDP’s performance.

You see,  Jagmeet Singh has seen his stature grow in Canadian politics after the Liberals went from a majority to a minority and the NDP helped them to form the government. However, Singh has now and then landed himself in controversy, which is not approved by the provincial NDP.

The federal NDP’s alliance with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party, according to the Saskatchewan NDP, has harmed the party’s credibility and turned potential NDP voters into Saskatchewan Party supporters.

The largest centre-right party in the province, the Saskatchewan Party, has gained popularity by adopting a harsh position against the Trudeau administration’s attempts to block resource development and pipelines, a move also endorsed by Singh’s NDP.

After the 2020 election, the Saskatchewan NDP came to the conclusion that when the federal NDP advocates for policies that are not in the best interests of Saskatchewan, it would be challenged.

A 2020 report reflecting on the NDP’s defeat in general elections said, “Many Saskatchewan New Democrats told us that the federal NDP has reinforced the provincial party’s problems on economic issues and made it more difficult to connect with working-class voters in both urban and rural seats.”

The provincial NDP realises that the brand has suffered because of Jagmeet Singh’s views on resource development and pipelines. They said that although some of their supporters would support the NDP in Saskatchewan, they don’t appreciate how the federal NDP has supported the Trudeau administration.

Therefore, Jagmeet Singh should take a cue from the incident and abandon his “ green agenda.” The day isn’t far when he’d be thrown out of the party if he sticks to his woke and controversial agendas.

The Provincial NDP is aware that they must oppose Jagmeet’s initiatives if they want to hold onto power, and this development creates the possibility that they will work with conservatives to do so.

The Saskatchewan faction of the NDP realises that they’d have to stand for their own province as the Saskatchewan Party does. The NDP may even look to join hands with conservatives in the province. The whole episode is a wake-up call for Jagmeet Singh, whose political career is now breathing its last.
