Shrungagiri Sri Shanmukha Temple – Overview
Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati had two sons; Shanmukha was one of them. He is revered as Lord Muruga for Tamils and Subramanya for Kannadigas. The meaning of name Shanmukha is “six faced god.” Shrungagiri Sri Shanmukha Temple is dedicated to this form of Lord Skanda. This is a temple which is on a small hill called Shringagiri in Bangalore. As the temple is of Shanmukha, the tower of the temple has six faces of Shanmukha.

Shrungagiri Sri Shanmukha Temple open from 6:30 AM to 12:30 PM in the morning and from 4:30 PM to 9 PM in the evening.

History and Architecture of this Temple
Lord Ganesha’s brother Shanmukh is considered the commander or chief of the deities. He is known by many names like Subramanya, Skanda etc. Shrunga Giri is a small hill located about 13 km from the Bangalore city centre.
There is a temple on the top of the hill dedicated to Lord Shanmukha and it was designed under the guidance of Dr. R. Arunachalam. Sri Bharati Teertha Maha Swamiji inaugurated this temple. Shrungagiri Sri Shanmukha Temple is on the outskirts of the city and has a pleasant climate. It is a serene place away from the hustle and bustle of Bangalore.
It is about 240 feet above ground level, and the temple is at the top. The gopuram is about 62 feet high, and the temple is about 123 feet. A pair of peacock statues welcomes the visitors at the entrance of the temple. Then there is a beautiful Trishul idol which adds to the beauty of the temple manifold.
There is a Lord Ganesha Museum in the Shrungagiri Sri Shanmukha Temple premises where idols of Ganesha are available in different sizes, shapes and forms. The sanctum sanctorum of the temple is traditional, but the complex has a modern touch.

By Air- The nearest airport from Shrungagiri Sri Shanmukha Temple is Bangalore airport. From here you can hire a taxi to reach this temple.
By Train- The nearest railway station from this temple is Bangalore railway station. From here you can take a bus or taxi to reach this temple.
By Road- There are many BMTC buses available from Rajarajeshwari Arch or Uttarahalli. But none stops at the entrance, so one has to get down at the nearest bus stop and take an auto or walk to the temple from bus stop.
