Canada is insulting Ukraine in the worst way possible. Helping Ukraine is now more than just a pressing need for the West; it’s almost a precondition. The Ukrainian defense is in a very precarious position as a result of Russian advances and constant missile attacks.
Because Ukraine simply cannot let its biggest war against Russia break out so easily, calls for more tanks to support Ukraine are becoming louder and louder. The US, Germany, and other western allies have recently donated more military equipment to Ukraine.
But Canada is adding insult to Ukrainian injuries. How? By delivering scrap military tanks.
On 26th January, the Canadian government announced that Canada is sending four leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. Defence Minister Anita Anand told a news conference the Canadian Forces will be increasing its contribution in the months ahead and contended that supplying just four out of Canada’s fleet of 82 battle tanks is nothing but symbolic.
The same Canadian government was reluctant to send lethal weapons at the outset of the war on Feb. 24, but Anand defended her decision now, pitching that the war “has changed.
Well, the vim and vigor of Canadian Leopard 2 tanks are known to the world. Canada has 82 Leopard 2 tanks in three different battle and training configurations, and another 30 designed for field support.
The military claims that their former status as heavily protected and armoured vehicles give them a tactical the advantage in terms of mobility and “survivability” from firepower. On the battlefield, they serve as direct fire support.
However, Canada shouldn’t be sending its tanks because they are literally disintegrating into scrap.
Canada aids military scrap to Ukraine
It’s true, as per a report by the financial post, Canadian Forces College in 2018 and 2022 had stressed that the tanks have been neglected by the Trudeau government and currently, they are useless.
Over 80 Leopard 2 tanks make up Canada’s tank fleet, all of which were already used and bought in 2007 for deployment in Afghanistan. In 2011, Canada ended its combat operations in Afghanistan, and the tanks were essentially left stranded in storerooms.
The tanks are nearing the end of their lifecycle. Currently, maintenance costs only add to the burden placed on taxpayers. Some tanks have been entirely “cannibalized” for parts, making them totally useless.

Ukraine had plans to ask Canada for some Leopard 2 tanks once Berlin removed the bureaucratic hurdles blocking their re-export. However, the Ukrainian regime had no idea what exactly is in the store.
Well, many observers of Trudeau’s recent actions have concluded that he, like European allies, is motivated by darker goals and wants the Ukrainian war to end as soon as possible. And the best way to accomplish this is to weaken Ukraine.
In November 2022, reports came that the German government wanted a quick Ukrainian defeat. Berlin angrily denied this, but many European leaders remain skeptical about Germany’s trustworthiness.

Make no mistake, Trudeau is a bigger chameleon than Germany. He has a dark past of seeking revenge for his humiliation.
The deplored state of the Canadian military is not hidden from anybody. If Canada actually cares for Ukraine, it should show a reasonable effort to donate usable tanks rather than some mere military scrap.
