Trudeau kneels down on Bill C-21 provisions but he needs to prostrate

The hunting culture in Canada covers elements of the history of hunting from the pre-colonial era until the present in all parts of Canada. The current dictator in power in Canada was all set to wipe that culture off the country’s fabric. Every fourth household in the country possesses some sort of a firearm and the liberal government took a controversial move of banning even the legal possession of firearm which was sure to garner the ire of the Canadians.

A few months back the liberal government made some amendments to Bill C21 which talked about the banning of handguns. The bill was nothing but a shot in the arm of Canada’s organised mafia. It faced severe backlash by daily Canadians involving the premiers of nearly all the provinces. But, here’s some good news now. The liberals have finally decided to backtrack on their bid.

The Liberals’ contentious attempt to cram a ban on thousands of gun brands and models into a measure about handgun sales has reached a dead end on 3rd Feb. Now this comes as a complete surprise.

Even some of the government’s own members were caught off guard when it was announced that the amendments to Bill C-21 were being withdrawn, despite the fact that the Liberals had obviously been sweating under the political pressure put on them.

“There have been legitimate concerns raised about the need for more consultation and debate on this vital part of the bill,” Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino said in a statement.

“We hear those concerns loud and clear, regret the confusion that this process has caused and are committed to a thoughtful and respectful conversation that is based on facts, not fear,” stated the minister.

As members of the public safety committee were researching on Bill C-21, which would have banned the sale of handguns and included new offences involving firearms, the modifications were delivered to their desks in November.

The amendments which were coming before were no surprise for liberals as when they introduced C-21 last May, the Liberals had already said it would be amended to include a “comprehensive ban on assault firearms.”

Liberals amended the bill with two major changes that came out to be problematic.

One, code-named G46, had hundreds of pages identifying the brands and models of firearms that would be prohibited if the measure was passed. Some were already prohibited by rules, but the Liberals wanted to legislate such restrictions so that it would be more difficult to overturn them.

Another amendment, G4, would have created an “evergreen” definition of what kinds of guns would forever be illegal in Canada.

The law was supposed to curb the increased gun violence emanating in the country but did anything of that sort was insinuated in the amendments? No. Instead the bill is encouraging the organised mafia gangs in the country.

Canada has always been soft-on-crime and we know that. The Liberals just won’t take action to stop gang violence, and they’ll keep pushing for light terms for violent offenders with Canada’s soft-on-crime Supreme Court. But, on a very rare occasion, the Liberals took a tough stance against the gun owners. Well, that is what it initially seemed like. Liberals announced a handgun ‘freeze’ on legal gun owners only to make Canada more dangerous as the bill will do nothing in the direction of reducing crimes in the country. It only targets those who are already abiding by the law, and we are aware that law-abiding Canadian gun owners are not to blame for the country’s high rate of gun crime. Gangs will continue bringing illegal firearms into the nation and using them in crimes while Trudeau is snatching the arms of law-abiding licensed gun owners.

This faced the ire of almost every province in the parliament asking for the scrapping of the law and finally now it’s happening. The feds are now backtracking on their decision to impose those amendments.

“Today’s humiliating climbdown that we have forced Trudeau to make is a temporary pause in his plan to ban hunting rifles,” Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said.

Poilievre also stated that, “He (Trudeau) is doing this because he got caught and because Canadians of all walks of life from across the country, law abiding, decent Indigenous Canadians, farmers, rural Canadians who follow the law stood up with Conservatives and forced him to temporarily pause this plan.”

Banning hunting rifles was perceived as meddling with the Canadian culture. The average Canadian is very much attached to hunting and it is considered as the part of the core culture of Canadian traditions. Apart from this these rifles are also used as a safety measure against bears and SUV-sized reindeers which often come in contact with the Canadians living in far-flung regions. And banning hunting rifles would prove fatal for the Trudeau in upcoming elections. Finally, Trudeau has understood this has agreed to come on to the same page with the outcries of the public.
