On February 9th, 2023, St. Lucian Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre accused Unitedpac of spreading false information under the guise of facts. According to Pierre’s administration, they had previously warned Unitedpac about the potentially damaging and adversarial content being shared on social media by them and the United Workers Party. Unitedpac had posted on social media that the US had issued a strong warning to the St. Lucian government regarding a 3-day visa violation by Housing minister Richard Frederick.

The Pierre administration has advised St. Lucians not to be misled. They said this kind of misinformation not only undermines the trust of St. Lucian citizens but also impacts the reputation of St. Lucia in the region and the world.

The UnitedPac response

The opposition groups strongly rejected Pierre’s accusations. In response, Unitedpac emphasized that the people of St Lucia deserve transparency regarding the matters that impact their nation.  The United Workers party and Unitedpac issued a joint statement. The statement described it as a disappointing situation to see the administration resorting to imprecise and unspecific allegations.

For those who are unfamiliar, Unitedpac is a social media account. The accusations made by this account have frequently left the Pierre administration puzzled. Last month, it posted about, Pierre’s purchase of a brand-new white BMW and a new house at Cap Estate. It also claimed that members of the SLP party are deeply involved in organized crime, drug trafficking, rape, and links to murder.

The Legal Action, Canada Style

Pierre has also warned that if Unitedpac doesn’t back off from accusing him, the social media handle will face lawsuits and legal actions. Instead of refuting the claims with facts, Pierre is ranting and threatening dissenters just like Trudeau.

PM Justin Trudeau does the same thing in Canada. Whenever, PM Trudeau and his government ministers fail to provide adequate answers, they start advising to not fall for anti-govt claims. Unitedpac’s allegations have placed Pierre in a difficult position. It’s time for Philip to step up, be more credible, and provide answers.
