Remember Trudeau backing agitating farmers in India and saying his country will always be there to defend the rights of peaceful protest? Well, how much of it was true is known to all. Isn’t he the same man who snatched away those “peaceful protest rights” from the protesting truckers in Canada last year? Perhaps, the hypocrite Trudeau took form that time but let’s see will Trudeau stick to his words when the same episode spirals in his own country? Yes, the Canadian version of the farmers protest is not too far away in the picture. You can just sit back with folded hands and wait for another gong show in Canada to snatch the living daylights out of Trudeau’s life.
As per a recent report, the Canada federal government was aware that fertilizer emission targets introduced by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in 2020 would unfairly target western Canada by harming farm yields, but it went ahead with the policy anyway.
Considering the fact that western provinces account for over 90% of Canada’s canola, spring wheat and barley crops, any slight reduction could upend exports and food supply at a national level.
Documents acquired by a Canadian media organization through an access to information request show how a web of unachievable expectations are being placed upon the backs of Albertan and Prairie farmers. The liberals are thrusting green policies upon farmers which will affect agriculture crazily. But, still the champion of irrational ideas is masquerading as a risk-taking leader.
Moreover, Canada has even imposed tariffs on fertilizer imports from Russia and Belarus in the wake of the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine which again is facing backlash from the country’s farmers.
As a result of which, farmer organisations in the country are now urging the federal government to immediately remove the tariffs placed.
The executive director of Ontario Bean Growers, Ryan Koeslag, stated in a press release on Thursday that while the organisation welcomed Ottawa’s decision to set aside the $34 million obtained through the measures, it should immediately remove the tariffs due to the fact that Canada was the only G7 country to do so.

“While this is good news, it does not address that the tariff is still in place,” said Koeslag. “Canada is the only G7 nation that is penalizing its own farmers with this tariff, the United States has never imposed a tariff on fertilizer from Russia or Belarus.”
The Atlantic Grains Council, the Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario, the Grain Farmers of Ontario, and the Grain Growers of Quebec, among other farmer organisations, also participated in the endeavour.
Farmers also requested compensation from the federal government for losses incurred by the agricultural industry as a result of the retaliatory tariffs.
“Direct compensation for the costs Canadian farmers have incurred already due to this unfair fertilizer tariff, is the right thing to do,” said Koelsag.
“In a time of global uncertainty, reimbursing Canadian farmers for the tariff will balance some of the inflationary costs and help farmers grow more crops and food we need to feed Canadians and the world.”
To add on, since the initial announcement of the levies in March of last year, $115 million of its proceeds have been sent specifically to support the Ukrainian military effort. Seems strange, the government has enough to aid Kyiv but nothing to resuscitate the dying healthcare in the country.
However, the Liberal administration has come under fire for unfairly singling out the agricultural community for its strategy. Not to mention, the federals even forced a carbon tax-like “regulatory backstop” onto farmers.
“A number of policy measures could be put forward for consideration beyond just a ‘voluntary agreement,’” wrote Agriculture Canada officials.
The feds never get tired of hurting their country’s own agriculture and making anti-farming policies primarily hurting the prairies who are known as the breadbasket of the Western world. But, it’s high time now. The Canadian farmers are now calling on Ottawa to take down its tariffs. This reminds us of last year’s protests that led to Trudeau saving his skiing and hiding at some unknown locations. He then came up with some punitive measures to crackdown on the truckers and suppressed their voices by labelling them terrorists and what not. He even invoked the never-touched in recent times, Emergencies Act to curb the protests.
The Emergencies Act, which replaced the War Measures Act in 1988, has never been invoked before.

Critics have noted that the prime minister once voiced support for farmers in India who blocked major highways to New Delhi for a year in 2021, saying at the time: “Canada will always be there to defend the right of peaceful protest”.
Which seems to contradict Trudeau’s actions who first imposed irrational vaccine mandates onto the Canadian truckers and transporters. When the people started protesting against his policies, he ran away and took shelter in an unknown location. He tried to suppress and silence the protester’s voices by cutting off their financial support through crowdfunding and donation sites. And when all of his policies seem to be failing, he metamorphosed into a dictatorial leader.
Seems that Trudeau has forgot the taste of the bedlam that rocked Ottawa last year. Which is why the dictator wants some more lunacy spiralling around him. He is now taking anti-farm steps that have irked the nerves of the farmers to the core. Now, Trudeau must brace himself up for another hullabaloo transpiring in the country.
