Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir – Guide 

Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir – Temple of an Indian soldier, there is a soldier on the India-China border in Sikkim who is still guarding the border 48 years after his death. You may find it strange to hear, but in the temple of Baba Harbhajan Singh, even the Chinese army bows down. All soldiers and officers of the Indian Army offer prayers at the Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir, located between Jelep Pass and Nathula Pass in Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, built in the 14000 ft snowy mountains on the India-China border.

History of this Temple

Harbhajan, who was posted as a soldier in the Punjab Regiment of the Indian Army, was traveling with his convoy on 4 October 1968, when he accidentally fell into a deep gorge and died, at that time neither his body was found nor any information was received. It is said that later he came in the dream of a friend and gave information about his body, then he was cremated. People have such a wish that from then till today the soul of Baba Harbhajan Singh protects the borders here.

It is believed that even after his death, Harbhajan Singh has been providing all the information and alerting the army from time to time. The army then built Baba’s mandir with the picture of Baba Harbhajan Singh and his belongings kept in this temple. The people of Sikkim say that a separate chair was kept for Baba Harbhajan Singh in the flag meeting between India and China on the border.

Place to visit near this Temple

Nathu La

Nathula

Nathula, another famous attraction in Sikkim. Kabi Langchok is a historical site of importance, located 17 kilometers north of Gangtok on the Northern Highway in the northeastern Indian state of Sikkim.

Phaensang Monastery

Phaensang Monastery is a Buddhist monastery of the Nyingmapa order, 9 kilometers north of Gangtok in Sikkim, India. It was established in 1721 during the time of Jigme Pavo.

Seven Sisters waterfall

Seven Sisters is a popular waterfall located on the Gangtok-Lachung Highway, about 32 km from Gangtok. As the name suggests, seven distinct waterfalls are arranged harmoniously side-by-side on a wide rugged cliff when viewed.

By Road- Roads to Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir are well connected with the other cities of the country so you can easily reach this temple by using your own vehicle or by any public buses or taxi from any part of the country.
