Purnagiri Mandir Champawat – Guide

Situated in district Champawat of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, this Purnagiri Mandir is situated at a distance of about 90 kilometers from Champawat main city. If the distance of this temple is taken from Tanakpur, then it is situated at an interval of just 20 kms. The temple of Purnagiri is situated near the river Kali. This Purnagiri temple located in Champawat district is considered to be one of the total 108 Shaktipeeths.

History of this Temple

According to religious history, Lord Shiva’s father-in-law once organized a Yagya at his place and did not invite Lord Shankar and Mata Sati to participate in it, yet Mata Sati went to participate in that Yagya. Lord Shankar was humiliated a lot there in front of Mata Sati, Mata Sati could not tolerate this insult and Mata Sati jumped into the Havan Kund there.

After that, Lord Shiva took out Mother Sati from that Havan Kund and started doing Tandav. Due to this orgy, there was havoc in the whole universe. Then to avoid this devastation, Lord Vishnu started his Sudarshan Chakra and divided the body of Mata Sati into 51 parts. After which the parts of Mata Sati where they fell were named according to that part. According to this legend, the navel part of the body of Mata Sati had fallen here.

Purnagiri Mandir Champawat opens at 6:00 AM in the morning and close at 9:00 PM in the evening. Morning aarti is performed at 6:30 AM in the morning and evening aarti is performed at 8:00 PM in the evening.

Places to visit near this Temple

Lohaghat

At an altitude of 1706 m, Lohaghat is 62 km from Pithoragarh on the way to Tanakpur and 14 km from district headquarter Champawat. Lohaghat is situated on the banks of Lohavati river and is a centre of historical and mythological importance.

Golu Devta Temple

Golu Devta Temple Champawat is located in Kanalgaon Village, Manch Tamli Motor Road, inside Champawat District of Uttarakhand. The Golu Temple of Champawat is also the birth place of Golju Devta.

Reetha Sahib Gurdwara

Reetha Sahib Gurdwara is situated at the confluence of the Landia and Ratia rivers in Champawat district of Uttarakhand. It was built in 1960 and is located near Dayuri village. The place was also visited by the founder of the religion, Guru Nanak Dev.

Baleshwar Temple

Baleshwar Temple is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the city of Champawat in Uttarakhand. The Baleshwar temple is a wonderful epitome of stone carving. The main Baleshwar temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

By Road- Roads to this temple are well connected with the other cities of the country so you can easily reach this temple by using your own vehicle or by any public buses or taxi from any part of the country.
