The smart premier of Alberta has finally found a way around Trudeau and his dictatorial leadership. Based on what we saw so far, Western Canada predominantly votes Conservative which is why the region tops the Liberal’s hate list led by Alberta.
Bringing anti-prairies policies and having a step-motherly treatment towards the province of Alberta has been the norm so far under the Trudeau regime even if that means hurting the whole nation’s interests. But, recently with a certain move Alberta’s premier Danielle Smith has proven what a real leader should be like.
In a show of revenge, the Prime Minister is always eyeing an opportunity to knock on Alberta’s fortunes and never wants to collaborate with the province.
Recently, in a letter, the Premier of Alberta offered to work with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on specific energy and climate measures in exchange for certain concessions from Ottawa.
The letter comes after a meeting between Trudeau and Danielle Smith on February 7. During that meeting, according to Danielle Smith, the Prime Minister expressed a willingness to work with other people to increase investment and employment in Alberta’s energy sectors while lowering net emissions for both Canada and Alberta.
In a letter which was made public a few days ago, Danielle Smith stated that the province is ready to collaborate with the federal government on a planned strategy for carbon capture, utilisation, and storage incentive programme with the goal of reducing net emissions.
Without “full involvement, consultation, and approval of Alberta,” the premier wants Ottawa to refrain from implementing new federal laws or regulations that would affect Alberta’s oil and gas resource development, management, or workforce participation.
According to Danielle Smith, the requirement also calls for the execution of the federal Emissions Reduction Plan’s targets and actions, as well as “just transition” legislation.

Not to mention, this is not the first time Danielle Smith has sent signals of collaboration with the federal liberals. Smith has sent an open letter to the federal government before; just weeks ago, she wrote to the prime minister about the same subject in advance of her meeting with him.
According to Lisa Young, professor of political science at the University of Calgary, in the most recent letter Danielle Smith outlined requirements that the federal government would find it challenging to meet if they were to achieve their own policy goals.
Also on 16th Feb, Danielle Smith announced the appointment of a group of five oil patch veterans to advise her administration on the direction of Alberta’s energy sector.
Danielle Smith says the panel is to advise the government on how Alberta can meet the world’s future energy needs and a final report is to be submitted by June 30.
It’s true that the province has been facing the burden of the irrational federal policies for so long but it’s high time now. Perhaps, Justin Trudeau himself has realised the need of cooperating with the province owing to the vast amount of reserves present in the province making it a cash cow for the nation.
Till now in a show of hatred the Trudeau government has taken a series of steps for side-lining Alberta’s interests and deliberately blocking the province’s fortunes.
The Liberal policies have always been in direct contravention of the West’s prosperity by crushing the agricultural, mining and oil and gas industries. The excuse, climate change. The feds have forced the provinces to adopt a crippling tax, the Carbon Tax, and it is not sitting well for the West, especially in Alberta.
Ultimately, I believe that he picked up this distaste for the western Canada from his father. In his attempts to take control of the oil and gas sector through the National Energy Program, Pierre Trudeau also had numerous disagreements with Alberta. He overlooked the fact that Albertans made significant investments in the sector and were recovering their money.
Pierre eventually lost authority over the Oil Sands, but in order to exact revenge on the west, he refused to authorise the construction of pipelines and sale of the product. His son is carrying on his father’s legacy by adding more limitations on the industry. He just like his father wants to reap the resources from the west so he can continue to support his spending without sourcing any profits to these provinces.

This tells why Trudeau and the Liberals are least popular in the Prairie provinces, particularly in deep-blue Alberta, where his government’s approval rating is 25 points underwater and his personal approval rating is even worse. One way Trudeau could regain the support of Albertans before the election is to make amends for his past missteps.
Up to this point, the Federal Liberals have continually created plans to harm the Prairie provinces, particularly Alberta, that pushed Premier Danielle Smith to propose the Alberta Sovereignty Act as a way to escape Federal control. Now, with her collaboration plan, there is a good chance Trudeau will be ensnared forever.
