Guinea protests: Africa is yearning for change and this desire is evident. After the pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war, Africa has been looking inward to resolve its issues. This shift in attitude has brought about significant changes on the continent. Africa, which once heavily depended on the West and other global powers for survival, is now increasingly trying to forge regional alliances to focus on development and resolve its issues.
Women hit the streets in DRC
Frustrated with the ongoing conflicts, women in DRC took to the streets with babies on their backs. They chanted slogans and carried signs demanding justice and peace. Further, the demonstration took place while the East African Heads of State were meeting in Addis Ababa at a special summit to discuss the security issues in eastern DRC.
The M23 crisis has been ongoing for quite some time, and there is no sign of resolution. The M23, which is backed by Rwanda, has been accused of violating the terms of the ceasefire. Earlier, Congo’s military accused the M23 rebels of killing at least 50 people in a massacre.

Anti-Junta protests in Guinea
Similarly, in Guinea, the desire for change among common people is evident as they demand a return to civilian rule in the country. In ongoing Guinea protests Protesters have taken to the streets demanding civilian rule and the release of arrested activists and other political prisoners under the military junta that seized power in Guinea in 2021.

It is clear that Africans today are tired of the constant state of conflicts, coups, and crises in the continent. Resource-rich Africa cannot afford to be in this state of chaos and crisis if it wants to realize its full potential. To this point, African leaders and the common citizens are now calling for a change and regional efforts have also yielded results, such as the end of the Tigray crisis. However, much more needs to be done, and Africans have set the wheel in motion for the much-needed change.
