History of this Temple
Kutch Koteshwar Mahadev Mandir was built in 1820 by Jetha Shivji Brahmashakti and Seth Sundarji. Koteshwar literally means ‘ten crore gods’. According to legend, Lord Shiva, in appreciation of his devotion to Ravana, granted him a linga filled with religious power. Ravana accidentally dropped it here. To punish Ravana for his carelessness, the linga was transformed into millions of identical copies. Unable to recognize the original, Ravana grabbed one and left the original here, around which the Koteshwar temple was built.
