Shiv Mandir Ambernath – Guide

The Shiv Mandir at Ambernath is also known as the Ambareshwar Shiva temple. It is located in the city of Ambernath near Mumbai, Maharashtra. The Shiva temple is situated on the banks of the Vadvan river. The temple is built according to the Hemadpanthi-style and the stones are beautifully carved. To reach the sanctum sanctorum one has to descend 20 steps from the main hall. The Shiv linga is situated in the centre of the underground sanctum sanctorum under an open sky.

History of this Temple

The Shiv Mandir Ambernath was built by the Shilahara king Chittaraj in 1060 AD. Later, his son Mumuni rebuilt the temple. Some locals also believe that the temple was built by the Pandava brothers in just one night from a single huge stone block. The temple was constructed over 1000 years ago, and has two remarkable representations of Lord Brahma. A marvelously beautiful idol of Lord Brahmadev is carved on the outer wall. A rare idol of Hari-Har-Pitamah-Surya is also seen in the temple.
