The parliamentary committee of inquiry into foreign interference in politics has set its sights on Marine Le Pen, leader of the far-right Rassemblement National (RN/ID) party. Suspicions of links between the RN and Russia have sparked this highly anticipated hearing. Yet it is intriguing that the committee, launched by Le Pen’s own party, is now turning its attention to her.
The parliamentary inquiry, presided over by RN MP Jean-Philippe Tanguy, received testimony from politicians and public figures for several months in order to determine whether there was a possibility of political, economic, or financial influence in France from any foreign power.
This framework was used to interview a number of Le Pen’s party’s elected officials, and Le Pen herself will be questioned. This comes after a committee member informed EURACTIV at the beginning of May that it seemed probable that the hearings were over and she might not be invited to appear.
The inquiry has been reopened just to question Le-Pen.
The Next French President?
While Le Pen’s stature has been on the rise, posing a real challenge to the political establishment, her appearance before the committee raises eyebrows. It seems more like an attempt to undermine her growing influence than a genuine pursuit of the truth. Could it be that Le Pen’s audacity in challenging the status quo has made her a target for the elites?
Recent polls indicate that Le Pen would lead in the first round of the presidential election with as much as 36% of the vote, surpassing potential candidates from President Emmanuel Macron’s camp. This poses a threat to the ruling elite, as Macron’s allies have held positions of power for over eight years.
Le Pen has consistently criticized their decisions, refusing to heap praise on leaders like Vladimir Putin despite respecting his defence of Russia’s interests.
In addition, Le Pen had also refused to align herself with Macron’s involvement in foreign conflicts, such as Ukraine, which has resonated with many who believe in putting France’s interests first. Her nationalist narrative has gained traction among the commoners, even as she faces backlash from the EU.
Now, as the debate surrounding her alleged Russian ties intensifies, Le Pen finds herself on the verge of expulsion. The parliamentary committee’s sudden interest in her party’s loan from a Czech-Russian bank has conveniently provided a platform to question her. But let’s not forget that President Macron himself has mentioned this loan on several occasions, raising questions about the committee’s true intentions.

The ‘Dirty’ Elite
Now, this is no hidden fact: French politics has long been dominated by an entrenched system that favours the privileged few. The ruling elite, schooled in the ways of power, have constructed a fortress to protect their interests. Yet Marine Le Pen’s rise poses a significant challenge to this established order.
Her expulsion, if it happens, would serve as a stark reminder that even elites sometimes turn against their own allies when threatened.
Now all eyes are on the hearing. Will the ruling class be able to silence the voice of reform, or will nationalism and the need for a new course win out? It is obvious that the governing elite’s hold on French politics is eroding as the struggle for dominance plays out.
The latest anti-Macron protests are proof enough that the people long for a leader who puts their needs first. And Marine Le Pen has capitalized on it.

The battle is far from over, and the fate of the nation lies in the hands of those who dare to challenge the entrenched powers that be.
France’s ruling elite can resist change, but they cannot stop the winds of transformation from blowing. Unabated is the fight for a new age of politics—one that really reflects the desire of the people. And the bold challenger, Marine Le Pen, continues to stand for this unrelenting quest for change.
