$10,000 will rip the unity of the EU asunder

In a twist that could rival a Shakespearean tragedy, Europe finds itself at the crossroads once again. Just as the wounds from the 2015 migration crisis were beginning to heal, a new wave of migrants has arrived, fleeing the ravages of Ukraine. But this time, the harmony has vanished like a stink in the wind.

The migrants in Europe, who were once honored as survivors, are now subjected to abuse and hostility in their apparent safe-havens.

Poland, Hungary, and Austria have turned their backs on them and yelled, “Not our problem!” from the rooftops. The European Union’s very foundation of unity amidst the crisis is in danger as the discontent within Eastern Europe is spreading like wildfire.

Yet, the EU Commission seems hell-bent on pursuing its grand plan of Autocracy. Their latest stroke of brilliance? A price tag for rejecting migrants!

Per Migrant Penalty

According to several media reports, the EU is proposing a plan for penalizing nations for rejecting even one single migrant. Negotiators, like merchants haggling over the cost of silk, are tossing figures between $10,000 and $22,000 per migrant, seeking to penalize countries that dare to refuse their entry or rights.

A penalty for compassion? Very noble from the EU, to be honest!

The EU, the supposed beacon of democracy and solidarity, is now resorting to financial extortion to impose its will. What’s next? Paying countries to accept migrants like an eccentric auction? Or perhaps they’ll demand personal favors, like “One free backrub for every refugee admitted!”

East goes Awry

This ill-conceived plan has the potential to shatter the already fragile unity within the EU. Poland has already raised its voice in protest, refusing to dance to Brussels’ tune. Eastern European diplomats are fuming, their pride wounded by the audacity of these payment demands. Can we blame them? After all, isn’t it a country’s sovereign right to decide who enters its borders?

Whereas, Italy, the land of pasta, has chosen to sink the migrant ferry in the meantime. Rome is refusing to extend a warm welcome to the huddled masses by doubling down on NGO-run boats. The cracks are getting bigger, and the once-solid connection within the 27 Nation bloc is beginning to look frayed.

The EU appears blissfully unaware of the impending storm. They continue while disregarding the growing anti-EU sentiment and imposing their will on the disgruntled member states. They will impose a penalty for each rejected immigrant without considering the repercussions.

This means, a million dollars for rejecting ten thousand migrants? Oh, how generous!

One cannot help but wonder if the EU has lost touch with reality. They wield the very weapon that fuels the flames of Euroscepticism. With each misguided move, they shoot themselves in the foot, inviting further disdain and disdainful glares from the very people they claim to represent.

EU is currently on the verge of a migrant meltdown. A price tag and a strict law threaten to tear the EU apart, leaving it hanging by a thread. Are they going to see their mistake before it’s too late? Or will they stand by and watch as their lofty goal fails due to their conceit?

The ghosts of past and present migration will continue to hound the EU for years to come. Without a doubt, what Merkel started, will eventually end the EU if things continue this way.
