A major chemical attack may soon occur in Ukraine. No, Russia won’t be launching it but Kyiv itself. A senior Russian defence official has accused Ukraine of preparing for a false flag chemical weapons attack to pin the blame on Russia and attempt to turn Moscow into a pariah at the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
On Monday, Oct 7, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, the head of Russia’s chemical and biological defence forces, said Moscow “has information about Ukraine’s preparation of false flag attacks aimed at accusing Russia of using toxic substances during the special military operation.” He added that “proof” would be provided to OPCW officials.
It must be noted that NATO over the past months has supplied Ukraine with excessive chemical protection equipment that far exceed Ukraine’s actual needs. In July this year, US ambassador to the OPCW, Nicole Shampaine, claimed that the supplies were made in face of alleged chemical attacks by Russia.
However, Igor Kirillov stressed that the excessive deliveries were made so that a false flag operation can be carried out.
Kirillov, on the other hand, dismissed allegations regarding use of chemical weapons by Russia as completely unfounded, saying the OPCW had already confirmed in 2017 that Russia had completely destroyed all of its chemical weapons stockpiles. The destruction process was monitored both by the agency and inspectors from Western countries, including the US.
Russia believes that by manufacturing and fabricating evidence of a chemical attack, the West is planning to deprive Russia of the right to vote at the upcoming OPCW sessions and prevent Moscow from sitting on various executive bodies.
Kirillov said that Kyiv would find it easier to carry out this plan as Russia is currently not represented in the OPCW Executive Council.
Russia failed to secure its re-election bid to the council in November 2023. Moscow has said it was essentially “pushed out” of the body, adding that it had turned into another platform completely controlled by the US.
Additionally, Kirillov also claimed that Ukraine had secretly used chemical weapons disguised as smoke grenades in the ongoing Kursk offensive.
He claimed that on August 11, Kyiv forces used chemical shells Dm-105 in the town of Sudzha. At least 20 people were injured in the attack. Kirillov added that during Russia’s special military operation, more than 400 cases of use of riot control chemical agents and other chemical substances by Kiev troops were recorded.
Faced with embarrassments in the battlefield, Ukraine is now resorting to harnessing chemical and nuclear threats to intimidate Moscow. Russia’s intelligence chief Sergey Naryshkin on Oct 7 revealed that British and American spies helped Ukraine develop plans for blowing up the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant, which would have plunged Europe into another radiation nightmare.
In August, Kyiv forces crossed into Russia’s Kursk Region but were stopped short of the nuclear plant in Kurchatov.
He said, “According to intelligence obtained by the SVR, the planned terrorist attack included taking and mining the Kursk NPP.”
This desperation of Ukraine speaks volumes of the ground reality. Megalomaniac Zelensky is a madman. He may go to any extent to save his crumbling empire. And if he ever manages to pull off such a tragedy in eastern Ukraine, only NATO and the US will be held responsible.
