Hezbollah supporter Imam invited to Trump inauguration

The much awaited inauguration of the US President elect is now just days away. Distinguished guests from all over the world have been invited to the mega event. But among them, is a highly controversial, radical Imam. The Trump team seems to have made a grave error by inviting Imam Husham Al-Husainy to his inauguration event. Al-Husainy is an American adversary, a supporter of Hezbollah, Iran and an open enemy of Christians, and Jews. He has now been invited to deliver a “prayer” at the upcoming inauguration.

Al-Husainy has a very radical past and has even delivered a prayer at a Democratic National Committee (DNC) event. Al-Husainy was later criticised for making anti-American remarks during his speech.

He has also been involved in promoting false “Islamophobic” hate crime claims and has called for implementing elements of Sharia law, including a proposed ban on burning the Koran. After one of these fake hate crimes, he helped draft a bill and pushed for a local city ordinance to outlaw Koran burning, which critics saw as an effort to enforce Sharia law in the US.

Al-Husainy has a history of supporting militant groups like the Lebanon based Hezbollah and the Yemen based Houthis. He has defended attacks on US ships in Yemen and made incendiary statements, such as calling for the deaths of Saudis, whom he referred to as “agents of the Jews.”

Following his speech at the DNC event, Al-Husainy appeared on other news shows, where he refused to condemn Hezbollah. Reports also claimed that he had a portrait of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah on display. Additionally, he signed a letter praising Hezbollah’s actions in Lebanon and encouraging “Holy Jihad,” extending that support to actions in America.

He has participated in numerous rallies in Dearborn, Michigan, where attendees openly expressed support for Hezbollah, called for Israel’s destruction, and promoted extremist narrative. However contrary to his usual narrative it seems sensing the winds of change in US politics, he declared last year that he would support Trump.

Al-Husainy said, “I am supporting Donald Trump because he opposes gay marriage and he is the most Christian person in the election. He will return us to conservative values, and I am a Muslim and I will stand with whoever opposes gay marriage.” A factual fallacy as Trump has never promised a federal ban on gay marriage.

As per some media reports, Al-Husainy was among those Muslim figures who he relied upon to win Arab American votes in states like Michigan. In November, just before the election date, Husainy said he would support Trump because he “wants to see the world more stable.”

Later, Trump became the first Republican nominee since 2000 to win the majority-Arab city of Dearborn.
Well, it looks like Trump team is trying to honour Al-Husainy for the support that he extended before the elections. Because, Trump did not include an Imam in his inauguration ceremony when he first took office in 2017.

However, Al-Husainy’s support for Trump seems far from genuine. He is just trying to buy more time to push his radical Islamic agenda by masquerading as a Trump loyalist. In fact, the Trump team has been lax to not open an investigation against him and probe his ties to Iran and Hezbollah. Trump has a strongman image and he cannot afford to shake hands with the very people he claims to be fighting against. Al-Husainy’s place is behind bars and not at a Presidential inauguration ceremony.
