Donald Trump’s blitzkrieg against anti-Trump Republicans is now compelling his critics to take an about-turn and support his candidature. Take, for instance, Nikki Haley, who is going soft on him after the former US President made his stance clear.
Trump has shown the intent to clear the Republican Party of the people who could become Achilles’ Heel. His crusade is now showing positive outcomes as Nikki Haley, one of Trump’s friend turned foe is now supporting the candidature of the former US President for 2024 polls.
After the Capitol Hill security breach, Haley had declared that he “won’t be in the picture” for the 2024 Presidential race. But now she has changed tunes. The former South Carolina Governor is not only making it clear that Trump can contest the 2024 polls, but also assuring that she would not run for Presidency should Trump decide to ask for the White House all over again.
When asked if she would support Trump if he runs for President again, Haley said “yes”. She told AP, “I would not run if President Trump ran and I would talk to him about it.” The former South Carolina Governor added, “That’s something that we will have a conversation about at some point if that decision is something that has to be made. But yeah, I would, absolutely.”
Haley went on to shower praise on Trump. She said, “I had a great working relationship with him, I appreciated the way he let me do my job.” Haley added, “I thought we did some fantastically great foreign policy things together. Look, I just want to keep building on what we accomplished and not watch it get torn down.”
But again we come to the main question. What really compelled Nikki Haley to support Trump for the 2024 Presidential race months after ruling him out explicitly?
The root cause actually goes back to February this year, when Trump snubbed Nikki Haley quite openly. According to a POLITICO report, Trump rejected meetings with many prominent leaders including House and Senate GOP candidates, and the most important of all such snubs was Nikki Haley.
By refusing to mend ties with Haley, Trump had suggested that he will not go soft on anyone who challenged his 2024 ambitions. More recently, Trump went even more berserk with his crusade against those who can play spoilsport in his future political plans. Involved in a bitter fight over the Alaska GOP nominee, Trump called Pence a disaster and McConnel a dumb S-O-B as the fight over the Alaska GOP nominee intensifies.
Trump’s strategy is clear. He is not to let the rot in the Republican party spread any further, and he is even poised to settle scores with those who had abandoned him during the end of his tenure at the White House and afterwards.
Nikki Haley’s sudden show of support for Trump is thus a response to the former US President’s crusade against those who had turned against him in the aftermath of the Capitol Hill security breach.
