Know more about Sappo: Sappho presented lyrical poetry, which was composed to be sung with a lyre accompaniment. Except for a few extracts and two works: “Ode to Aphrodite” and the Tithonus poem, much of her work has been lost over the years. This is most likely because “Saint Gregory of Nazianzus and Pope Gregory VII had her works destroyed,” according to the Poetry Foundation.
People referred to her as “Tenth Muse” and “The Poetess” because her poetry was so compelling. Sappho was a prolific poet, with an estimated 10,000 lines of poetry. Her poetry was well-received, and she was included in the canon of the Nine Lyric Poets, a group of poets who were highly regarded by Hellenistic Alexandria scholars.
