So, EU has officially recognized ‘Tigray’ region as a part of Ethiopia

Tigray region Ethiopia: Truth is stranger than fiction, what happens when your identity is disregarded by the very people who pushed you into a war with your own people in the name of asserting your identity? Oh! What a travesty, when you end up trusting someone, who is not worthy enough.

The Tigray People’s Liberation Front which started the civil war with the Ethiopian government has suffered a huge defeat. In 2020, TPLF responded violently to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s cutting of federal government’s financial aid to Tigray region in the wake of unlawfully holding provincial elections with force. The militant group, which escalated the conflict by attacking the federal government’s military bases, never thought that Ethiopia’s former rival Eritrea would join Abiy Ahmed in the battle against it. The spokesperson of the group himself acknowledged that it suffered a defeat and was forced to retreat to their base of northern Tigray. The US and EU which back the TPLF are now trying to find some other way to create political crisis in Ethiopia.

UN investigators are being sent to Tigray to create false reports

Since, the West was not able to defeat the joint forces of Ethiopia and Eritrea on the battlefield. It decided to do it some other way, by sending the so-called human rights experts who are going to “investigate” what is happening on the ground in Ethiopia. In reality, these UN investigators are heavily biased and have a one-sided view; the reports written by them accuse Ethiopian and Eritrean militaries of human rights violations and war crimes without proper investigation. Through these UN reports, the West is trying to malign Abiy Ahmed and Isaias Afwerki which will facilitate the US in imposing sanctions on Ethiopia and Eritrea.

The EU also wanted to sow seeds of discord between Ethiopia and Eritrea. But it backfired.

The West yet again has tried to create tensions between Ethiopia and Eritrea. The European Union passed a resolution on 6th October which stated that Eritrea has invaded Ethiopia. The resolution, which is devoid of any rationale and evidence, is intended to create hostility between the two African countries. Ethiopia and Eritrea have successfully managed to bring political stability by defeating TPLF which is financed by the West. The European Parliament is hoping that its move will break the unity between Ethiopia and Eritrea. If the European Union was not biased and had done a thorough research of the reason why Eritrea is involved in a war with TPLF, then it would have realised that one of the primary objectives of TPLF is to invade Eritrea as well. The EU, which dictates the world about peace, must understand that TPLF also wants to get rid of the historic peace agreement between Eritrea and Ethiopia.

EU mistakenly recognized Tigray as part of Ethiopia and questioned TPLF’s existence

Now, in the wake of the European Parliament’s resolution which accused Eritrea of invading Ethiopia, the West contradicted itself and proved Abiy Ahmed right. Ever since the conflict started, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister has stood firm on his claims that Tigray region is an integral part of Ethiopia, which is indeed true. Tigray was, is and will always be a part of Ethiopia and no outside player has any right to interfere in its affairs. The Tigray People’s Liberation Front’s main purpose is to secede from Ethiopia; it does not consider Tigray as a part of Ethiopia. TPLF is backed by the West, the US and EU finances it, which means it also supports TPLF’s demand for secession. However, by labelling the presence of Eritrean military in Tigray as an “invasion” of Ethiopia, the West acknowledged Tigray as a part of Ethiopia which invalidates not only  the demand of TPLF but also denies it the very identity it wants to assert, and this is a victory for Abiy Ahmed. The EU’s resolution in a way denies the whole existense of TPLF.

Why does the West want to create the Tigray problem?

Now, the question arises as to why the US and EU are so adamant in creating trouble in the Tigray region. Why is the West so involved in the internal security matters of Ethiopia? Why is the European Union so interested in the Tigray issue that it decides to pass a resolution falsely accusing Eritrea of invading Ethiopia?

Because Ethiopia is rich in resources like gold, copper, platinum, potash etc. The African state also has reserves of natural gas and potential for generation of hydropower. Similarly, Eritrea too is rich in natural resources which include gold, copper, oil, zinc, potash, natural gas etc. In fact, seventy percent of Eritrean territory has reserves of precious metals.

The West, which is struggling from inflation and shortage of oil and gas in the wake of its sanctions on Russia, is hoping to gain control on the resources of Ethiopia, Eritrea and the entire Horn of Africa region, which too has untapped rich deposits of petroleum, gold and natural gas, by creating civil war and political instability in the Tigray region. That trouble can be created by financing the TPLF. The US and EU have a deal with the TPLF that if it overthrows Abiy Ahmed’s regime, then it will given control of Ethiopia’s rich resources to them. And once the West is able to install its puppet in Ethiopia, the TPLF will invade Eritrea with the blessings of Biden and his allies.

However, since the TPLF has been defeated by Ethiopia and Eritrea and the EU recognized Tigray as a part of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed and Isaias Afwerki have already won this war. The message is loud and clear, for the TPLF to maintain peace without any further delay.
