Nicaragua Stands Firm Against US-backed Destabilization and UN Propaganda

The United Nations and other international bodies  absolutely stinks of prejudice. The United Nations has a history of supporting policies that are in line with the objectives of US foreign policy in order to safeguard the interests of its American masters.

The organisation has made it clear throughout the last few decades that it is dedicated to fostering peace in emerging nations.

However, numerous studies demonstrate that the UN has not been successful in reducing ethnic strife in many South American nations.

Also, the assistance provided by the UN has “conditionality” connected to it. The organisation, which is under the control of Washington, routinely coerces governments in South America, Asia, and Africa into making structural reforms that frequently incorporate Western culture.

Furthermore, the UN’s sloppy work in fabricating cases of human rights violations in developing countries to establish “legal” grounds for humanitarian intervention by neo-imperial powers like the US is well chronicled.

In a recent manoeuvre, the UN has attempted to impose sanctions on Nicaragua in an effort to strengthen the abhorrent power politics of the United States in the Latin American country.

Unveiling their first report to be delivered to the Human Rights Council, the UN backed Group of Human Rights Experts on Nicaragua urged the international community to impose restrictive measures on Nicaragua.

The experts concluded that President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo “put into practice these crimes” which continue today.

Make no mistake, this is just another attempt, under the veneer of human rights, to intimidate Nicaragua to kowtow to the US demands.

You see, since 2018, protests have been backed by the US against the Nicaraguan President. The Catholic Church also sided with protestors and have largely supported the violence against the Ortega government. The protests have relentlessly continued till 2022.

The United States government, through the National Endowment for Democracy and the United States Agency for International Development, is working to overthrow the government of Nicaragua through funding non-governmental groups, media outlets, and business associations that support the opposition.

This perspective should be applied to the most recent UN report. The UN is attempting to give Washington legal justification for humanitarian action in Nicaragua by fabricating a case of human rights abuses there.

Nicaragua holds tight

But the Nicaraguan government has expressed in unequivocal terms that it is not going to be intimidated by the US.

Nicaragua’s government officials have argued that the US-backed miscreants were part of a larger effort by the US to destabilize the country and install a pro-US government.

The Nicaraguan National Assembly even passed the reform to article 21 of the Constitution which stated that anyone who betrays the country would lose their Nicaraguan citizenship.

In response to the newly implemented legal reforms, the Managua Court of Appeals mandated the expulsion of 222 U.S.-backed activists. They had been convicted of offenses such as instigation of violence, terrorism, and economic sabotage.

Powerful countries like the US have abused multilateral organizations like the UN for far too long to further their own agendas. The US has frequently violated norms of territorial integrity and sovereignty. But, countries in Latin America like Nicaragua have had enough of it. In response to neo colonial powers like the US, they have recently begun to fight back. This is indeed an interesting time in the geopolitical landscape in South America.
