According to white house officials, Vietnam desires a partnership with the United States, including some good defense and co-operation deals, the first such in 48 years.
Vietnam is all set to drift close to the Western embrace, while also fostering a façade of friendly neighborliness. A war-torn nation that once bore the brunt of American hegemony is now vying to become a key player in reshaping the balance of power in the region.
