Calgary’s brewing a political tempest: Tucker Carlson’s arrival’s got tongues wagging!

The recent announcement of Tucker Carlson’s upcoming event in Calgary, where he will be joined by Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, has stirred up a political storm in Canada. This event has been met with enthusiasm by many Canadians, particularly those who align with conservative ideologies and support Alberta’s stance against COVID-19 mandates and other federal policies.

However, this development has also raised concerns among the Canadian Left, who view Tucker Carlson as a controversial figure known for his provocative and often divisive commentary. They fear that his presence in Canada could amplify his views and further polarize the political landscape.

A petition on Change.org is begging Trudeau to ban Carlson from entering Canada. Can you believe that? Ludicrous.

However the premier’s office has confirmed Smith’s presence at the event. “The premier participates in a variety of public and private events and does interviews with dozens of reporters, broadcasters and podcasters from across the political spectrum,” press secretary Sam Blackett wrote.

“Obviously, she does not subscribe to every view of every interviewer or reporter she speaks with, whether that’s the CBC, the Toronto Star, or Tucker Carlson. The premier aims to share Alberta’s message with as many people as possible whether they’re from Alberta, Canada, or around the world.”

Supporters of Danielle Smith and Tucker Carlson remain undeterred. They see this event as an opportunity to introduce Canadians to Carlson’s perspectives and further embolden their resistance against perceived overreach by the federal government.

The political implications of this event remain to be seen. However, it is undeniable that the arrival of Tucker Carlson in Canada has ignited a significant debate in Alberta, with the province’s premier, Danielle Smith, defending her decision to participate and the opposition NDP calling for her to cancel the event.

The NDP leader, Rachel Notley, has strongly condemned Carlson’s invitation, labeling him a “credible figure” and accusing Smith of demonstrating a “profound lack of judgment” by associating with him. She has urged Smith to cancel the event, asserting that Albertans deserve better leadership.

Notley’s sentiments have been echoed by other NDP members, including finance critic Shannon Phillips, who has referred to Carlson as a “pro-Putin white nationalist.” A petition on Change.org has also been initiated, calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to ban Carlson from entering Canada.

The debate surrounding Carlson’s event has intensified the political divide in Alberta. The event is likely to further polarize the political landscape in Alberta, with strong opinions on both sides of the issue.

Not to mention, Tucker Carlson, the controversial conservative commentator and former host of Fox News, has been a vocal critic of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Tucker Carlson’s criticisms of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have centered on Trudeau’s perceived focus on “woke” issues and his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Carlson has argued that Trudeau’s progressive policies are out of touch with the concerns of average Canadians and that he has ignored more pressing issues such as the country’s struggling economy and rising crime rates.

He has even accused Trudeau of being incompetent and has suggested that Canada would be better off if it were invaded by the United States.

Trudeau has also several times privately expressed his frustration with the commentator. In 2022, Trudeau was criticized for his handling of the Freedom Convoy protests, which were inspired by Carlson’s documentary “O Canada!” The protests were ultimately quelled, but they left Trudeau with a damaged reputation.

Carlson’s supporters believe that he is a voice for the voiceless and that he is not afraid to speak truth to power.

Despite the controversy surrounding him, Tucker Carlson remains a popular figure among many Canadians. It remains to be seen whether Carlson will be allowed to interview Danielle Smith or banned from entering the country out of fear.
