Ukrainian forces have reportedly destroyed a third bridge in Russia’s Kursk border region, further crippling vital supply lines in the area as Kyiv’s counteroffensive extends into Russian territory. The bridge, located in the village of Karyzh on the River Seym near the Ukrainian border, was allegedly damaged during an attack late on Sunday night. This marks the third such bridge to be targeted in the past few days, leaving Russia with no functional crossings on the Seym river.
The strike is part of a broader Ukrainian operation aimed at disrupting Russian military logistics and has sparked significant concern in Moscow. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky seized on the success of the incursions to criticize what he called the Kremlin’s “bluff” regarding its so-called red lines.
“The operation ‘no one knew about’ proved that there are no red lines of the Kremlin to be wary of,” Zelensky stated, referring to Kyiv’s unexpected and forceful cross-border campaign. He urged Ukraine’s international allies to reconsider restrictions on the use of foreign-supplied weapons, implying that the incursion into Kursk could have been avoided if Ukraine had been allowed to strike deeper within Russian territory sooner.
The destruction of the bridge in Karyzh is a significant development in the conflict, as Ukrainian forces continue to push into Russia’s Kursk region. Two weeks into the operation, Ukrainian forces claim control of more than 1,250 square kilometers (483 square miles) and 92 settlements in the region. The rapid advance has left Moscow reeling, with some experts suggesting that Vladimir Putin is now facing a strategic scenario he “never dreamt in his worst nightmares.”
This unprecedented move into Russian territory represents a critical moment in the ongoing war, which has seen front lines stretch across Ukraine’s north, east, and south. The Kursk incursion, however, marks a new chapter in the conflict, with Ukraine demonstrating its capability to take the fight directly to Russian soil.
As the situation develops, the global community watches closely, with many speculating on how Russia will respond to this direct challenge to its military infrastructure and territorial integrity. For now, Zelensky’s message is clear: Ukraine is achieving its goals, and the Kremlin’s threats of retaliation appear to have been overstated.
