Volodymyr Zelensky’s time is up! It looks like Ukraine is really close to getting its new ruler!

Andrey Yermak, the chief of staff to Ukriane President Zelensky, is emerging as one of the most powerful figures in Ukraine’s government, sparking conversations about his increasing influence. There are growing rumors that Yermak may one day succeed Zelensky as Ukraine’s leader.

A recent article by The Times reveals that several senior officials in Ukraine have expressed concern about Yermak’s grip on power. Though he officially serves as Zelensky’s chief of staff, many now describe him as the “de facto ruler” of Ukraine. His authority has surpassed nearly every other elected official, leading some to refer to him as Ukraine’s “vice-president” or even its “real power broker.”

Yermak’s Rise to Power

52-year-old Yermak wasn’t always involved in politics. Like Zelensky, he has a background in the TV industry, previously working as a film producer. Zelensky brought Yermak into his inner circle when he transitioned from actor to president in 2019, and since then, Yermak’s influence has grown.

In fact, many believe that Yermak now runs the show. As The Times reports, Zelensky has become increasingly reliant on a smaller group of trusted advisers, with Yermak at the center. Critics, however, see this as problematic, warning that Yermak is too power-hungry and that this concentration of power could further harm Ukraine’s democracy.

Is Yermak Overstepping?

Several officials in Kyiv have accused Yermak of sidelining those he sees as rivals. For instance, military officials believe Yermak was behind the demotion of General Valery Zaluzhny earlier this year, allegedly because he viewed the general as a threat to his position. Yermak’s office, however, denies these claims, saying Zaluzhny was promoted, not fired, and that Yermak’s management style is simply “efficient.”

One outspoken critic, Daria Kaleniuk, head of the Anti-Corruption Action Center, said that Zelensky’s biggest mistake has been entrusting Yermak with so much authority, calling it dangerous for the future of Ukraine.

Military and Diplomatic Shakeups

Tensions within Kyiv now appear to be reaching a boiling point. Recently, rumors surfaced that Ukraine’s military intelligence chief, Kirill Budanov, might soon be dismissed due to disagreements with Yermak. These rumors follow a major shake-up within the government, where several key officials, including the foreign minister, were fired earlier this year.

Some experts suggest that this recent purge could be another move by Yermak to solidify his control over the government. As more officials either resign or are pushed out, Yermak’s influence seems to grow stronger.

What’s Next for Ukraine?

Yermak has also been involved in Ukraine’s foreign policy, attending key international meetings and pushing for more military aid. His role in promoting Western support has only added to his prominence on the global stage.

Despite the growing speculation about Yermak’s future, his office has dismissed any concerns about his growing power as mere propaganda. They insist that President Zelensky still makes the key decisions. However, with so many voices suggesting otherwise, Yermak’s role within Ukraine’s government is becoming harder to ignore.

It seems like following setbacks in eastern Ukraine and Kursk offensive, the West has made up its mind to sack Zelensky. But, if it does so out of a sudden, it might be viewed as a Russian victory. So, it is highly likely that Zelensky has been now reduced to a dummy president, and Democrats are waiting for Kamala Harris to become the next president. After that, they can inaugurate a new puppet in Kyiv and rejuvenate the war in Ukraine.
