A political crisis manufactured by Trump. This is how the liberal media is describing the unfolding chaotic scenes in Canada. The ruling Liberal party of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in shambles. The deputy PM and finance minister Chrystia Freeland has already resigned. She was pissed off over Trump’s tariff threats and had disagreements with Trudeau over how to counter them. The crisis is such that the current ordeal is being termed as the most serious political challenge Trudeau has ever faced.
In a speech given earlier this week, Trudeau said, “In politics, there are always tough days and big challenges.” But looks like Trump is hell bent on making these challenges even bigger.
Trump is still a month away from taking office but he has already deployed his tariff threats and trolling skills to petrify Trudeau and his crumbling regime. Even on Wednesday, Trump dropped a $100 million dollar bomb on Ottawa. Trump wrote, “No one can answer why we subsidize Canada to the tune of over $100,000,000 a year? Makes no sense!”.
He further reiterated that Canada should instead become the 51st state of Canada. Trump being Trump, he didn’t stop short of declaring Trudeau the governor of the state and lauded Freeland’s exit.
Trump quipped: “The Great State of Canada is stunned as the Finance Minister resigns, or was fired, from her position by Governor Justin Trudeau.”
Does Trump really want to annex Canada and make US bigger in size? The answer is NO! The idea is highly unpopular among MAGA Americans, who view Canada too liberal as per their standards. Instead, by calling Trudeau a governor and Canada a US state; Trump wants to project himself as the real boss in bilateral negotiations. Trump and even Trudeau know that Canadian economy literally stays afloat because of America. If he wants, Trump can literally implode the economy of Canada, whose 75 per cent exports are consumed by the US. Any increase in import duty by US would wipe out Canadian economy by billions of dollars.
Trump’s tariff threats actually exposed how precarious the Trudeau regime has been over the past years. His own partymen are now turning against him and now backing Freeland to become the next Liberal leader.
At least seven Liberal members of parliament have publicly called on Trudeau to step down, and more have done so privately according to sources, according to a report by CBC News. According to a report in National Post, many liberal MPs now want Freeland to replace Trudeau. Prince Edward Island MP Sean Casey, for example, called on Trudeau to step down and urged Freeland to take on the new role.
Eddie Goldenberg, former aide to former prime minister Jean Chrétien, also backed Freeland over Trudeau. In an opinion piece, he wrote, “Drafting Chrystia Freeland in the next two weeks is the bold and innovative choice that could turn today’s crisis into opportunity.”
Liberal MP Wayne Long revealed that the 153 Liberal MPs are split into three groups regarding their support for Trudeau. According to Long, about one-third of the MPs still back Trudeau, another third want him to step down, and the final third are urging him to take time during the holidays to think carefully about his political future. Liberal MP Sean Casey agreed that this breakdown seems accurate.
However, Long noted that these numbers might not tell the full story. With a cabinet shuffle on the horizon, the number of MPs opposing Trudeau could be higher than it appears.
With Trump threat looming and increasing opposition from his own party members, it can be safely assumed that Trudeau’s regime is facing an imminent collapse, owing to a crisis worsened by Trump and his trolling skills.
