India is still to condemn the killing of the Iranian nuclear scientist, the message to the world is clear

Iran is really angry, but it cannot do anything about it. The country has fewer friends and many enemies, which is why even though its top scientist has been killed, they cannot do anything. The Iranian Embassy in India has tried to nudge New Delhi to make an official condemnation regarding the assassination. The embassy called on the international community to condemn the “act of state terror” after Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, its top nuclear scientist was assassinated last Friday near Tehran.

The embassy tried to bring the attention of the Indian Government and the people alike to the killing. In a statement, it said, “Iranian people expect that the international community condemn state terrorism and build a consensus to counter tension and adventurism in the region,” adding praises to the slain scientist, like, his contribution to the “national efforts in curbing the COVID-19 pandemic”. Notwithstanding all this, India has still not condemned the alleged assassination of Iranian Nuclear scientist; it is also significant because the person in question was the most significant cog in the Iranian Nuclear Development Machinery.

The Iranian leadership should blame itself as well as the international geopolitical alignment on the Indian silence. While India was making efforts to circumvent the US sanctions and find ways to deal with Iran, it went ahead with a whopping $400 billion deal with China. And the deal came to light much later, making it clear that Iran prioritizes its nuclear ambitions more than stability in the region or whatever remaining economic sovereign there is.

Iran has also tried to stir up the Kashmir issue to force India into buying the Iranian oil. Any foreign policy person would tell you that this is the worst possible way to get one’s way. Since then, India has been maintaining its distance from any problem Iran finds itself in, and while not condemning it, India does not support it as well.

The Iranian heft in the Middle East is in a steep decline, and with the dynamics changing in that region, India too, like any real political power has been working closely with its Arabian friends. India has been increasing its strategic and geopolitical interactions with the US allies in the region, be it, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Israel among others.

While the USA has been empowering Middle Eastern allies, by taking steps like selling F-35 as part of a broader $23 billion deal to the UAE as well as the historical Abraham Accord, India too is trying to find congruence with its fellow quad country the USA and friends like the USA and Saudi Arabia.

India’s silence is full of signals. By its actions, India is telling the world that, it will no longer follow false altruism. And if any country tries to play India in any way, shape or form, India will remember and will act in consideration of it. India will not take other’s actions and still stand with them in their hard times.
