The death of mainstream media in the United States

The death of mainstream media in the United States

According to a recent poll, the United States ranks bottom among 46 countries in terms of media trust, with only 29% of those asked expressing confidence. According to the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism’s annual digital news study, trust in the media has improved in a number of nations and globally—but not in the United States.

Following the 2020 election, a number of Americans are moving away from news consumption or “avoiding news altogether,” according to the report. “Interest in news has fallen sharply in the United States following the election of President Biden—especially with right-leaning groups” Americans, it stated.

According to the report, interest in news has plummeted 11 percentage points in the United States, to 55 per cent.  “Finland remains the country with the highest levels of overall trust (65%), and the USA now has the lowest levels (29%) in the survey.”

“To some extent,” the report stated, “this is not surprising as our poll was conducted after the turbulent events on Capitol Hill in January and the departure of Donald Trump. But our data show signs that many former Trump supporters may be switching away from news altogether. Almost all of this fall in interest came from those on the political right.”

Poynter, a left-leaning journalism school, theorised that it’s due to “severe political polarisation in the United States,” at least in part. “This study, like many others, found extremely high levels of distrust—75 percent of those who identify as being on the right thought coverage of their views is unfair,” according to an article from the institute.

However, following the release of the Reuters Institute study, media critics referred to corporate-owned media outlets’ lack of reflection as the reason they are no longer trusted. It’s no surprise, according to longtime journalist and legacy media critic Glenn Greenwald, who previously worked for The New York Times and The Guardian, that Americans’ trust in the media has plummeted.

“This is an extraordinary (though unsurprising) finding. Most amazing is that the corporate sector of the US media is failing in every respect: financially, culturally, collapsing trust,” he wrote in a tweet on June 24.

Greenwald noted that “any other industry failing like this would engage in self-critique, asking why.” But, he said, journalists and media executives “never do.” Mike Glenn, a longtime reporter of The Washington Times, added: “There was some media introspection for a few moments after [former President Donald] Trump’s election. But that quickly disappeared.”

For four years, the American media has waged a relentless, dishonest, and vicious anti-Trump campaign, with a passion for free meals and champagne parties thrown around by Democrats. Now that Trump is no longer in office, these sites are fighting for survival. But criticism of the current administration has been muted or non-existent. There hasn’t been much coverage of the border crisis caused by the new border strategy.

Furthermore, the mainstream media applauds the left-wing policies being pushed through the White House. However, the average American citizen does not want this. It is necessary for the media to demonstrate actual coverage of events. However, the mainstream media as clearly showcased by the survey have lost the faith of the citizenry.

Moreover, the actions of the media have left the people with no choice. Last year, the idea of the Coronavirus being accidentally released from a lab in Wuhan was dismissed by the American media, who labelled it “debunked,” “dangerous,” or “doubtable,” as well as a far-reaching conspiracy theory.

More evidence has surfaced since then. The media’s pivot from dismissing the lab leak notion to now claiming that they were the ones who first reported on it is both disgraceful and opportunistic in its entirety. Many journalists who earlier dismissed the lab leak origin theory as a “conspiracy theory” or as “debunked” are now reconsidering their positions, seeing it as unexpectedly plausible.

And they are doing so now because it helps them achieve their political agenda. To unite the people against China because let’s face it, Biden’s other domestic policies have not made the desired impact and also Dr Anthony Fauci needs to be saved from the hole he has dug himself in.

CNN and other left-wing media outlets drew in viewers throughout the Trump administration by pouring hatred at former President Donald Trump. CNN’s viewership has plummeted since Trump’s departure, with the network losing nearly half a million people each night.

CNN has lost nearly half a million viewers per night since President Donald Trump left office, according to a March poll, and is down about 50% in the core 24-54 age range. According to Nielsen data analysed by Fox News, the cable news channel averaged 2.5 million prime-time viewers each night from November 4 through January 20, Inauguration Day.

While CNN has witnessed the most dramatic drop in viewership, MSNBC has also seen a significant drop. According to a VIP study comparing watching statistics in the first week of March to those recorded between November 30 and December 4, 2020, CNN and MSNBC were the worst hit.

The audience for “CNN Tonight with Don Lemon” dropped by 32.5 per cent between March 1 and 5. According to the report, the average audience for “Anderson Cooper 360” dropped by 32.2 per cent, while “Cuomo Prime Time” dropped by 28.5 per cent.

With only single-digit decreases in viewership since Donald Trump left office in January 2021, Fox News has been the least harmed in terms of ratings, which can be ascribed to the country’s political tone subsiding following a tumultuous election season. Furthermore, Fox News had the greatest audience during President Biden’s primetime address last Thursday.

According to Nielsen Media Research ratings, the president’s address to the nation about the coronavirus epidemic received an average of 4 million viewers from 8 to 8:30 p.m., with 613,000 of them falling into the advertiser-coveted 25-54 age category. CNN ranked third with 2.729 million combined average viewers.

After making anti-Trump tirades a regular addiction for America’s braindead liberals, corporate media outlets like CNN and MSNBC have run out of material to present on television, because taking on the Biden administration is clearly a no-go. As a result, liberal viewers have grown tired of their media cheerleaders, a trend that was evident in March’s viewership rating and now the Reuters survey.
