Canada’s history resonates with the image where the sounds of birdsong and the rustling of leaves replace the sounds of bombs and gunfire. Its streets are not haunted by memories of destruction and loss, but rather by the beauty of its architecture and the richness of its culture. But wait, is Canada really so war neutral?
Let me tell you, Canada has blood on its hands.
So today we are about to shatter the illusion of Canada’s idealised image. The country has played a vital role in a brutal war that has cost the lives of more than 230,000 civilians, and combatants. A war which led to one of the largest refugee crises in recent memory destabilised the Levant. Yes, indeed we are talking of the Syrian civil war.
So, let me tell you about the attack of the US and NATO on Syria for a regime change and role of Canada in it. We have already stated, that Canada has always been one which blindly follows its master from across the border. No questions asked, simply obey!

Although former US President Obama is believed to be the main villain of this war epic, it did have some cameos played by other countries as well. Canada too was one such country. It chose to turn a blind eye to the plan of using Radical Islamic terrorists to change governments abroad, despite being capable enough to oppose such an action. But, I guess the successive Liberal governments have been lacking the ability to differentiate right from wrong.
Canada has supported humanitarian aid to Idlib- an ISIS stronghold, but not the rest of the country. Due to its location near the Turkish border, it was designated as the main office for the Al Qaeda affiliate in Syria (Hayat Tahrir al-Sham). Apart from Canada, Turkey too provided the terrorists with all the arms and ammunition they required, including tanks and anti-tank missiles that have even been used to bring down even an aeroplane. This raises concerns regarding Canada’s support for terrorism. Rephrasing the question- do Liberal Canadian governments have a policy of sponsoring terrorism?
Canada does not supply any aid to Syria other than Idlib, which represents just 2% of the total area of the country. The other areas of Syria, including Aleppo, Damascus, Latakia, Hama, and Homs, which are equally effected have never received any form of aid either from USA or Canada.
According to the foreign policy of the United States and Canada regarding Syria, Idlib must be kept alive as a distinct, livable “state,” independent of Damascus. Ignoring the government in Damascus and acting as though it were an independent entity working to further the motives of USA and Canada in the region. Hence, the west was rewarding Al Qaeda militants for supporting a regime change, which again was an Obama administration’s policy to which Canada agreed.

Canada made the announcement last month that it will repatriate 23 of its citizens who were detained in Islamic State detention facilities in northeastern Syria, which are run by Kurdish allies of the US forces. Following the fall of the Islamic State caliphate in 2019, this would be Canada’s greatest repatriation drive.
With the founding of ISIS, Canadian intelligence had always been well aware of who was practising radical Islam in Canada. They had knowledge of who had emigrated to Syria with a desire to participate in the war. They were also keeping track of what was happening on ground in Syria, as Canadians and other nationals fought the Syrian regime. Additionally, they also had information as to who all had switched over to ISIS after the US-backed FSA was dismantled.
Reccip Tayyip Erdogan, the president of Turkey, had previously expressed a desire to mend fences with Damascus. Canada should make the most of this blessing in disguise and shoulder Turkey. It is an opportunity in disguise for Canada to wash its sins off, for not only supporting terrorists but also being a mute spectator to the resultant horrors of war. A country that manages to successfully brainwash its citizens of being an ideal peace-loving country should introspect itself and re assess its past deeds.
Canada not identifying ‘Muslim Brotherhood’ as a terrorist organisation, speaks volumes of its affirmativeness towards Islamic terrorism. Additionally, the government is sponsoring a drive against islamophobia in Canada further, causing communal tensions in the country. It’s too late for Canada to realise the disastrous impacts of the US’ foreign policies. Instead of toeing US’ line and getting itself indulged in never-ending wars, Canada must keep its butt out of other countries’ democracy.
