Lakshmi Narayan Temple Amritsar – Guide

Durgiana Temple is a major Hindu temple located in Amritsar, Punjab. This temple is also known as Lakshmi Narayan Temple, Durga Tirtha and Sheetla Temple. The temple is named after Goddess Durga, the presiding deity of the Hindus where she is worshiped and worshipped. The foundation stone of this grand temple was laid by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, a renowned social reformer and politician of the country. This temple is one of the beautiful Hindu temples built in the 20th century.

History of this Temple

It is said that the history of this Hindu temple dates back to the 16th century, when the efforts of Guru Harsaimal Kapoor started the reconstruction of the Lakshmi Narayan Temple Amritsar after collecting funds and in terms of architecture, inspiration was taken from the Golden Temple of the Sikhs. In 1925, on the day of Ganga Dashmi, the foundation stone of Durgiana Temple was laid by the hands of Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya.

Lakshmi Narayan Temple Amritsar and its complex were renovated during a beautification program in 2013, planned for completion in 2015. Due to this construction, immense space has been provided for worshiping inside and outside the temple premises.

Lakshmi Narayan Temple Amritsar opens at 5:00 AM in the morning and close at 9:00 PM in the evening. Morning aarti is performed at 5:30 AM in the morning and evening aarti is performed at 8:30 PM in the evening.

Ram Tirtha Temple

Ram Tirtha Temple, situated at a distance of 11 kilometers from Amritsar, is the land of penance of Maharishi Valmiki ji as well as the birth place of Luv and Kush.

How to reach Lakshmi Narayan Temple Amritsar

By Air- The nearest airport from Lakshmi Narayan Temple Amritsar is Chandigarh airport which is at a distance of about few kms from this temple. From here you can easily reach this temple by using local transport services or taxi.

By Train- The nearest railway station from Lakshmi Narayan Temple is Amritsar Railway Station which is at a distance of about 1.5 km from this temple. From here you can easily reach this temple by using local transport services or taxi.

By Road- Roads to this temple are well connected with the other cities of the country so you can easily reach this temple by using your own vehicle or by any public buses or taxi from any part of the country.
