DEA chief in Mexico, Nicholas Palmeri, has been fired for his involvement with narcotraffickers. Palmeri was sent to Mexico to help the government to eliminate drug cartels who are responsible for some of the most heinous crimes.

However, instead of doing his duty, Nicholas Palmeri became complicit with narco traffickers. He abandoned his professional obligations and embraced the lifestyle of these hardcore criminals who have committed countless murders. Palmeri struck a deal with the drug traffickers and received bribes from them for compromising the Mexican government’s crucial investigations.

Nicholas Palmeri even misappropriated the funds of the Mexican anti-drug authorities and spent on his personal expenses.

He went on a vacation to Miami with the associates of drug traffickers while on duty and used the bribes given by drug lords on his personal expenses. Palmeri’s case offers a glimpse into the corruption that exists within the DEA in Latin America.

This case is just is a tip of the iceberg when it comes to the ugly nexus between DEA agents and drug traffickers in Latin American nations.

Like Nicholas Palmeri there are many other DEA officials who are working with narco traffickers in South America.

Now, the irony is that the US has long accused Mexico of being a drug hub and has spread exaggerated falsehoods against it. However, Palmeri’s and many other cases like him are proof that it is Washington which is also a significant culprit in Mexico’s drug crisis.

Therefore, this is why the removal of Nicholas Palmeri and other corrupt DEA officials in Latin America is essential. They have been complicit in the drug trade and have done nothing to stop it. Instead, they have aided the narcotraffickers and allowed them to continue their activities unchecked. This problem will only escalate if constructive steps are not taken by Latin American nations to break the nexus between the DEA and narco traffickers.
