Ecuador’s ill-advised foreign policy

Ukraine Soviet-era helicopters: The decision by Ecuador’s President Guillermo Lasso to consider sending Soviet-era helicopters to Ukraine has raised eyebrows. The move has been met with criticism, with many questioning the motives behind it.

The decision comes at a time when tensions between Ukraine and Russia are high, with Ukraine fighting a war in its eastern regions against Russian-backed separatists. The conflict has already claimed the lives of thousands of people, and the involvement of foreign powers has only made the situation more complicated.

But why would Ecuador, a country on the other side of the world, get involved in this conflict? Some have speculated that it may be an attempt by Lasso to curry favor with the United States, which has been providing military aid to Ukraine. Others have suggested that it may be an attempt by Lasso to distract from his own domestic problems.

Whatever the reason, the decision to send Soviet-era helicopters to Ukraine has been met with widespread criticism. Many have pointed out that these helicopters are outdated and not fit for modern warfare. Others have noted that it is not appropriate to send weapons to a conflict zone, especially when there is a risk that they could fall into the wrong hands.

The decision has also raised questions about Lasso’s leadership. Critics have accused him of being a Western puppet and of being corrupt and incompetent. Some have even compared him to a toddler with a crayon and a white wall.

Overall, the decision by Ecuador to consider sending Soviet-era helicopters to Ukraine is a controversial one. While some may see it as a way to support a fellow country in need, others see it as an unnecessary and potentially dangerous intervention in a conflict that is not Ecuador’s to fight. Only time will tell how this decision will play out, but for now, it serves as a reminder of the complex and often unpredictable world of international diplomacy.
