Kupiansk: The Next Chapter of Ukraine’s Embarrassment
Share on FacebookShare on X

Even after six months have passed, Ukraine’s crushing defeat is still being felt. The Ukrainian Army, which is supported by Western forces, found itself on the losing end of history as it was humiliated historically on its own front lines.

The Western powers were left in utter disbelief by this chapter, which was an epic embarrassment. The winner?  The Russian Army, bolstered by the enigmatic Wagner PMC, danced their way into Ukraine’s heartland, capturing the strategically vital city of Bakhmut.

Analysts, nodded knowingly as if they had seen it all along. The conquest of Bakhmut, they proclaimed, was Russia’s key to the Donbass region. It was the gateway to Moscow’s eastern dreamscape, the first step in their grand plan to capture Donetsk and Luhansk.

The city wasn’t just captured; it was conquered with a flourish that only the audacity of power can muster.

What an Embarrasment!

After months of conflict, the loss of Bakhmut was more than just a military setback; it was an insult to Ukrainian morale. The body count, an unreliable source of information, revealed a somber picture of lives lost on both sides.

In a single day, Moscow and Kyiv each claimed a larger number of the dead. It was a somber illustration of the human price of a power move.

For Ukraine, the humiliation ran deeper. The Ukrainian Army’s withdrawal from Bakhmut resembled a tactical retreat but, in reality, it was a retreat into shame.

It was a silent admission that they were no match for the might of the Russian bear. The curtain closed on that particular act, leaving the audience pondering what was to come next.

Kupiansk: Next in Line!

And now, dear readers, the curtain is rising on this war’s next act, which features a plot that is all too well known. Prepare for Bakhmut’s encore as the Ukrainian army orchestrates another grand evacuation.

You could refer to it as “Bakhmut Redux 2.0,” as it is a sequel that no one requested but that everyone could foresee.

A desperate cry for the civilians living close to the northeastern front to leave is heard coming from the heart of Ukraine.  Andrey Kanashevich, acting head of the Kupiansk military administration, speaks with a weary resignation. A list of 37 settlements has been declared unfit for human existence and ordered for evacuation due to “constant [Russian] artillery attacks and the security situation.” Even the once-defiant city of Kupiansk finds itself on the list of the forsaken.

The Oskli River, once a quiet divider, now marks the battleground of Russia’s insatiable ambition. The prize? The city of Kupiansk is a territory coveted by both sides like a prized jewel.

Russian troops are mere seven kilometers away from Kupiansk’s gates, preparing their deadly overture. The city lies within artillery range, a symphony of destruction that promises to be as spectacular as it is tragic.

The fall of Kupiansk, if it happens, will serve as a potent morale boost for Russia. Ukraine, already stumbling through a fog of retreat, paints a picture of a struggling army scrambling for cover. The Ukrainian military’s claim to fame is rapidly shifting from valor to evasion.

Zelensky’s leadership, once seen as a beacon of hope, now struggles under the weight of broken promises. The counteroffensive, billed as a triumphant counterpoint, has already faltered like a tune played off-key. Ukrainian casualties mount, a dirge of lives squandered in a struggle that seems increasingly futile.

Ukraine would like to erase the history that is currently being written. The players are in position, the scene is set, and Kupiansk will soon be covered extensively in the media. The entire world watches as Ukraine travels the perilous path it has set for itself, enthralled and horrified.
