Russia releases “Foreign Mercenaries” Hit Count

Russia

Russia dealt in bullets. Now it’s dealing in numbers. And the pain for NATO is unbearable.

NATO has always played it cool, saying they’re just helping Ukraine, not actually throwing punches in the fight. Russia, on the other hand, knew all about NATO’s little secret – boots on the ground in Ukraine. But instead of making a big fuss, Russia went for the subtle approach, neutralizing them without the drama.

The plot thickened when Germany’s Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, had a bit of a whoopsie, letting slip that British and French troops were chilling in Ukraine. Suddenly, France and the UK were all over Germany for spilling the beans on “critical intelligence,” basically admitting it was true. Then, French President Emmanuel Macron flipped the switch, turning into a warrior overnight, pushing for a full-blown NATO-Russia showdown. But when Germany, Italy, and other EU buddies gave him the cold shoulder, Macron looked to Poland and the Baltic States, ready to lead a charge into Russia. Meanwhile, Putin, sitting back like a Cheshire cat, dropped a kill report. Not just a brag about Russia’s military might, but a clear, chilly warning to anyone thinking of stepping onto Russian turf – it’s a quick trip from flight to body bag.

The Russian Defense Ministry recently shared a little update that reads more like the scoreboard of a grim game. According to their tallies, since February 2022, a whopping 13,387 foreign souls decided to take a detour to Ukraine, fighting for Kiev. Of these, the ministry solemnly notes, 5,962 have been confirmed as no longer being able to enjoy the local cuisine. Leading the pack in this international brigade, Poland, Ukraine’s enthusiastic neighbor and cheerleader, sent a hefty 2,960 mercenaries. Tragically, about half of them, 1,497 to be exact, won’t be coming home. Meanwhile, the USA, playing the role of Kiev’s BFF and arms dealer, chipped in with 1,113 mercenaries. The Russian scorekeepers claim that 491 of these Americans have bid adieu to the battlefield.

Georgia slides into third place on Russia’s unofficial “who’s who” of foreign fighters in Ukraine, with 1,042 mercenaries, and sadly, 561 won’t be heading back to enjoy Georgia’s famous hospitality. Despite Georgia’s government keeping a poker face and saying no to opening a “second front” against Russia, some local enthusiasts couldn’t resist joining the fray. Hot on Georgia’s heels, Canada’s in the mix with 1,005 mercenaries, 491 of whom have unfortunately seen their last maple leaf. The connection? A significant Ukrainian diaspora in Canada, tracing back to the post-WWII era when Ukrainian Nazi collaborators found a new home away from Soviet eyes.

Not to be outdone, the UK, Romania, Croatia, and France have sent their share of volunteers to the Ukrainian cause. France, despite being a vocal supporter of Kiev, only managed to rally 356 of its citizens, with about 147 making the ultimate sacrifice, based on Russian counts. A grim highlight for the French contingent came in mid-January, when over 60 foreign fighters, mostly French, were taken out in a Russian strike in Kharkov, targeting what was described as a “temporary assembly point of foreign fighters.” Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

But on a more serious note, we are talking about 5,962 people with families of their own, life stories of their own, hopes and aspirations of their own. Add to them the humungous toll that Ukraine suffered. What is it – a Million? More? No one will ever know. But one thing is for sure, all of them were thrown into the sacrificial fire of NATO’s ego. If these figures don’t shame NATO, I don’t know what will.
