The conflict in West Asia deepened further this week as Israel carried out airstrikes in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen. The attacks come just a day after a Houthi ballistic missile hit the Ben Gurion International Airport premises in Tel Aviv.
The situation in West Asia is again heating up, where the nuclear talks between Iran and the US were suspended due to “logistical reasons.” The geopolitical shift has started, where the Israeli government has approved a new military plan to capture the entire Gaza Strip and stay there for an indefinite period.
Meanwhile, Israel is thwarting Iranian-backed militia in Yemen, Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza.
Joint Israeli-US Airstrikes in Yemen
In a separate but related operation, Israel and the United States conducted a joint airstrike against Houthi forces in Yemen on Monday night. The attack came after the Houthis launched a ballistic missile that landed near Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport on Sunday.
Around 20 Israeli fighter jets dropped 50 munitions on targets on “dozens of targets in and around Hodeidah, a key Red Sea port. According to the IDF, the port is used by the Houthis to receive Iranian weapons and fund their operations. The Bajil cement factory, also hit during the attack, is believed to be used for building tunnels and military structures. According to the media, at least 29 people were injured during the attack.
The US carried out its strikes in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, reportedly hitting underground Houthi facilities. These airstrikes mark the sixth time Israel has attacked Houthi targets since July 2024. The Houthis, backed by Iran, have carried out over 400 attacks on Israel during the current war.
Israel had previously refrained from launching its own strikes in Yemen, hoping that over 1,000 American airstrikes since January would be enough to contain the threat. But after the missile strike near Tel Aviv, Israel decided to get directly involved again.
Attacks in Lebanon and Syria
In Lebanon, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed it struck several Hezbollah facilities, including weapons storage and production sites in the Beqaa Valley. Additional strikes targeted the Srifa area, which Israel claims was being used in violation of past understandings with Lebanon.
Drones also hit areas near Aitaroun and Janta, close to the Syrian border. Hezbollah-affiliated media outlets, including Al-Manar and Al-Akhbar, reported the strikes, which they attributed to Israel.
In Syria, Israeli airstrikes reportedly targeted a pickup truck, killing three people—two civilians and a Lebanese national said to be linked to Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force. Additional air raids were carried out near Hama in western Syria, believed to be focused on military installations.
