Biden can disturb the peace that Donald Trump brought to the Middle East

Abraham Accords were one of the most consequential agreements of the current times concerning the Middle East. It was Donald Trump’s greatest foreign policy success that his confidant Jared Kushner had achieved for him. The significance of Abraham Accord can take up a whole thesis in itself. With the victory of Democrats, the peace that was reached is looming with a danger of undoing all the efforts.

Donald Trump was able to de-hyphenate the Israeli relations with the Arab world and Israel-Palestine issue, thus, bringing countries like U.A.E., Bahrain, Israel together to partner for bringing peace and stability in the Middle East. Now, under the influence of Islamist & far-Left voices, US Middle East policy under the Biden administration will be helpful to Iran and Qatar, rather its allies.

The Biden administration will be influenced by the likes of Ilhan Omar, AOC, Rashida Tlaib among others. It should be very concerning as they stand for ideas which are against the long-running US foreign policy, that is, away from Israel and being more inclined towards Palestine. The democrats have a very entrenched relationship with the Qatar-Turkey’s Islamist lobby.

Two organisations Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and Muslim American Society are for a long time under suspicion from many sections of American society and even other countries. U.A.E. even listed them in the terror organisation list, with Taliban, Boko Haram, among others. These organisations have deep linkages with Qatar and Turkish governments and work as a tool to further their interests. The Biden administration may very well become compromised by people like Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib working within the government.

This time around, Muslims have come out as a million strong voting block and with them gaining influence, the position of the above politicians will rise and so will the influence of the Qatar-Turkey combine. It is sure to create a situation which is uncomfortable for all-weather allies in the region.

Trump administration had worked assiduously to create a cordial environment for the allies and friendly countries in the Middle East to normalise relations with Isreal. Be it UAE, Bahrain, Sudan or Kosovo, with the possible addition of more to the list. It was also important as it falsified the analysis that, peace in the Middle East would succeed only if a solution to the Palestine problem was found. However, Trump sidestepped the Palestine question and provided a framework for the countries in the region to find solutions for long-running problems.

It had significantly hurt Turkish supranational ambitions, it also made Qatar isolated in the region. But, now that Joe Biden is the new President, they are happy as their influence in the US has increased manifolds. The US will now head towards a foreign policy reminiscent to the Obama days. They will undo many features of Trumpian Middle Eastern policy, ranging from, sending more troops to Afghanistan and derailing the peace process, restarting the Syrian anti-Assad operations in collaboration with the rebel forces, and restarting military campaigns in the region.

These actions will make the region less likely to move on the path of peace and stability. On the contrary, it will move towards anarchy as the Syrian regime change war will lead to another void of leadership, and when it happened the last time, ISIS was born. Biden administration will also make a deal with Iran which will further fan the war fires in the region. Given the statements by Kamala Harris which talk about the sale of weapons to Israel, we can say that this is the administration which will plunge the region further into conflict and cash-in by selling weapons.

In less than 2 minutes Kamala Harris says ‘We must stand with Israel’ 3 times. Also adds: ‘I support US commitment to provide Israel with 38 billion dollars in military assistance.’

During all this, the US’ allies are the one’s who will be at a loss. These countries will have to re-look at their foreign policy, as the USA will not move out of the region and the situation is going to deteriorate further.

Joe Biden will relook at the Middle East policy and bury all the efforts of Trump in the resolution of multiple issues in the region. The new policies will re-ignite the flames of mistrust and anger in the region thereby disturbing the peace in the Middle East which was earned by herculean efforts.
