CBC is a dead horse, yet Liberals want to flog it

CBC Trudeau

The phrase “you save me, I save you” sums up the relationship between the Trudeau administration and the CBC precisely. Trudeau has made the decision to constantly water a plant which is going to die soon.

One of Canada’s biggest news organizations, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), has frequently been accused of acting as a lobbyist for Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party. With its news, it is accountable for disseminating manufactured truths, undesired propaganda, and biased information. Due to pay rolling of Trudeau, CBC is accused of serving as the liberals’ spokesperson.

Various incidents from the past support the same. The CBC sued the Conservative Party two weeks before the 2019 Canadian federal election for using just 17 second snippets of CBC’s news as campaign materials, impeding the Conservative’s campaign against the liberals. In the same year that Canadians were opposing Justin Trudeau’s introduction of the carbon tax, CBC publicly defended Trudeau and emphasized that the protests were limited to Alberta.

Also, CBC came under fire for misrepresenting an article that said 62% of Albertans opposed Trudeau’s federal equalization program. A “national” survey revealed that the majority of Albertans supported the initiative. B.C publicly criticized CBC for providing false information during the 2022 freedom convoy protests. CBC has frequently run stories that disparage Trudeau’s fiercest political foes, the conservatives. Moreover, CBC has repeatedly been observed urging Canadians to support liberal objectives and acknowledging them.

The reason why CBC, once Canada’s largest news media company, is now fighting for survival is because millions of Canadians no longer view the CBC as relevant or trustworthy due to the Liberals’ and CBC management’s combined inaction. Due to underwhelming results, CBC intends to stop producing regular television and radio programs. But it hasn’t yet integrated new media platforms into its operations to the degree required to compete with its rivals as content demand switched from traditional print and broadcast media to digital content. Moreover, it failed to leverage these platforms to attract younger audiences or to create content that would be interesting to a larger segment of Canadians.

The CBC has reached a stage where it cannot continue to operate as a private company alone. Its executive team has lost viewers and ad income for years while bumbling and navel-gazing the broadcaster into dire financial straits. Without a library to compete with more well-known broadcasters, its entry into streaming with the release of CBC Gem has largely been a failure.

Amidst this, Chrystia Freeland, the finance minister for the Liberal Party, decided that it would be reasonable to recommend reducing Disney+ memberships for Canadian families in order to combat inflation On one hand you call a streaming service with an endless library of some of the most beloved content of all time to  be an excessive expense and on the other hand the CBC, with comparatively little library or attention-grabbing content, receives hundreds of thousands of dollars from the federal budget.

Federal Liberals also ensure that CBC’s unskilled and illiterate journalists receive better rewards and salaries despite the fact that they are driving the media corporation in the direction of irrelevance. Where does this money come from, and why isn’t it being used by the government to address Canada’s more significant challenges like inflation, housing shortages, etc.? Why liberals are spending a lot of money on CBC, whose viewership is dwindling.

The answer is simple. The liberal government is in desperate need of CBC’s support and endorsement. With the Trudeau government’s poor leadership, CBC is all they have.
