Alberta 2023 elections: Trudeau’s last ditch attempt to conquer Alberta

Alberta 2023 elections: The political landscape in Alberta is fraught with tension and uncertainty. Why you might ask? The reason being the upcoming provincial elections which are set to be held in the month of May. And guess who is most perturbed? Obviously, the nemesis of Alberta’s standing premier, Danielle Smith. Justin Trudeau.

As from the outset, since Danielle took the premiership, there has been a little love lost between her and PM Trudeau. Her presence has been a pall over the haul of Trudeau’s power. Which makes it clear how desperately he wants her out of office and now this is becoming a reality.

With the upcoming elections looming large on the horizon in Alberta, the opposition’s concern is palpable, and its actions are speaking volumes. Justin Trudeau has embarked on a vicious campaign to vilify the current premier, resorting to underhanded tactics to safeguard his fast friend’s seat in the province. We’ll tell you how.

Elections Alberta is now intending to feature machine tabulator counting, in the upcoming elections. The letter makes the case that “witnessed hand counting of ballots” is exactly what the Alberta Election Act intends.

This has raised concerns among Albertans and the legal counsel representing them. They believe the use of the tabulators would compromise the integrity of the upcoming provincial election.

In a letter to Elections Alberta on 3rd April, litigator Leighton Grey of Grey Wowk Spencer LLP stated that he represents many Albertans who are concerned about upholding the integrity of the province’s 29th election.

It has come to Grey’s attention that Elections Alberta plans to allow machine tabulator counting in the forthcoming provincial election. According to the letter, “witnessed hand counting of ballots” is explicitly intended under the Alberta Election Act.

True North viewed the letter which says, “Any Directive to extend electronic voting machines to the entire Alberta 2023 election would necessarily impugn the integrity and reliability of its outcome.”

According to the letter, Elections Alberta is required under the Elections Act to encourage accessible voting by using “accessible voting equipment” including voting machines and associated vote-counting machinery.

The Alberta Elections Act’s “spirit and objective,” according to the firm, are not supported by the use of voting machines.

Now, this beckons us to delve in the 2020 episode of the US elections. The use of machine tabulators has always been disputed. We recall how former President Donald Trump, in the face of defeat, refused to yield to the winds of change. He launched a campaign against electronic voting machines with uncompromising perseverance, with Dominion Voting Systems—a Canadian software business that is widely used in the US—taking the brunt of his wrath.

According to Trump, Dominion tampered with millions of electronic ballots, spreading the seeds of doubt and distrust among the public. The accusations were made with such seriousness that they sent shockwaves through the fundamental fabric of democracy. Yet, as we pause to consider this historic occasion, we must consider the toll that this unrelenting quest for power has taken on the spirit of the US.

Moreover, Grey also said that the use of electronic voting devices decreased confidence in the outcomes of the Calgary municipal elections, where there was no way to contest the results because the ballots were automatically counted and then promptly destroyed.

Grey requested that Elections Alberta make sure that all ballots are securely preserved for 3 months following the election or a recount, allowing any candidate to request a recount, and allowing the affected party to demand a province-wide paper-only recount if an electronic counting is found to be incorrect.

Clearly, in a bid to secure the seat of his friend Rachel Notley, Justin is taking such steps. We’ve witnessed Danielle is a strong leader who has gained the support of the general public. Through thick and thin, her ardent and steadfast friends never left her side.

But, her presence in power has been a constant thorn in Trudeau’s side which is why now he is planning his actions to depose her. Since Danielle came to power roads have not been easy for the liberals. And hence, Justin Trudeau is making his last ditch attempt to conquer Alberta. Now, we sit with bated breath, wondering who would emerge victorious.
