The assassination of Shinzo Abe has triggered the Japanese, and it does not appear that they will back down easy this time. The triumph of Abe’s party in recent elections has cleared the way for the ruling Liberal Democratic Party to push necessary laws in the country.
After Japan’s crushing defeat at the hands of allied forces in the Second World War, the constitution of Japan was rewritten in such a way that it made it unlawful for Japan to raise its military, and spend on defence beyond the 1% of GDP cap under Article 9.
Japan to regain its military might
Article 9 was penned down in direct influence of the United States to disallow Japan to have any military ambitions so that the country always remained dependent on the US. However, Just days after his horrific assassination, Abe’s ambition of repealing this deceptive law will become a reality soon.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s Liberal Democratic Party grabbed 63 seats, or more than half of the 125 seats up for grab in the House of Councillors election, helping pro-constitutional amendment forces retain the two-thirds majority needed to push for revising the law.
China’s growing military might is getting out of hand for modern militaries like India to handle alone. Japan’s inroads towards creating a superior defence system would enable the two allies to counter CCP’s expansionist policies.
On the way to guaranteeing Taiwan’s Security
Taiwan is an emotional topic for China.CCP lays claim on the island of Taiwan as a part of its ancestral territory. Historically, the losers of the Chinese civil war fled to Taiwan and established the island and then in some quick decades developed it into a technologically advanced state.
Taiwan has superior semiconductor development capabilities and the possession of the island could be very beneficial to the economy of China. The US has pledged to protect the island in case of a Chinese invasion but the geographical distance between the two becomes a problem.
Taiwan’s vice president visited Tokyo Monday to pay respects to former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in the highest-level official visit to Japan in decades. A standing Japanese army would be the perfect response to counter any aggression on Taiwanese land by the Chinese. The close geographical location of Japan makes it a much better option than the US to ensure Taiwan’s sovereignty
The Senkaku island dispute
The Senkaku islands have remained an integral part of Japanese territory as part of the Nansei Shoto Islands. Whereas, China states the exact opposite and stresses again and again that, Senkaku lies within their territory and calls it the Ryukyu Islands.
Chinese authorities continue their claims on these islands with ever-increasing levels of maritime activities undermining the status quo.
A few weeks ago, Four China coast guard ships sailed in Japanese waters off the Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea alarming the Japanese forces. The Chinese government ship intruding into Japanese waters around the isles was the first since May 14 and the ninth this year. Japan had expressed concern over the situation surrounding the disputed East China Sea islets known as the Senkaku islands in Japan. China also claims the islands, which it calls Diaoyu.

China’s attempt to bully Japan is a consequence of Japan’s inability to wage war. The Japanese are way too powerful and technologically advanced to be bullied by a nation it once held captive. Article 9 was a law penned down under the influence of the gainers of WW-II and it is time to scrap it as a tribute to the former PM of Japan Shinzo Abe.
