Khair Tree – Overview

Khair tree is a major tree found in India. Khair tree is also known as Katha tree or Khadir tree. Tree has many medicinal properties. Katha is made from the stem of the Khair tree. Katha is used in making paan and paan is very famous in our country. The catechu is applied to the betel leaf and is chewed. This cures many diseases related to the mouth.

Khair plant is easily found in the forests of India. Khair is similar to Babool tree in appearance. There are small thorns attached to it. The leaves of Khair remain like the leaves of Babool tree. Its leaves remain small. Khair is used in many medicinal works.

Khair tree is very big. Khair remains 9 to 15 meters high. Its leaves remain small. Its leaves remain in pairs. About 30 leaves are found in a pair. Its leaves remain similar to the leaves of acacia. There are small thorns on the back of the well leaves. Small beautiful yellow-coloured flowers bloom in Khair. These flowers look beautiful to look at. Well, it bears fruit. Its fruits remain smooth and seeds are also found in them. The stem of Khair is brown.

Khair is used for many other purposes apart from making katha. Khair is used for worship and for making Ayurvedic medicine.

Khair tree has been kept in the category of conservation, because these trees are decreasing.

Katha is cooling and digestive. Gum is also extracted from the Khair, which is used in medicine.
