The Ukrainian President just greenlighted the Polish invasion of Ukraine. Yes, Warsaw has been given the informal approval to enter Western Ukraine. Poland, a nation rich in culture and history, has made it its goal to dominate the geopolitical stage. Poland has long played a significant role in influencing the political landscape of the continent thanks to its advantageous location at the crossroads of Europe.
In order to strengthen its position as a regional and global leader, Poland has recently pursued an ambitious foreign policy agenda.
Poland is steadfast in its support for Ukraine’s military potential, with President Andrezj Duda highlighting the significance of security guarantees. This pledge is not empty rhetoric; Poland has already promised the Ukraine Leopard 2 tanks and has most recently committed additional MiG-29 fighter aircraft from the Soviet era.
In the realm of politics, Poland’s aspirations are not limited to merely establishing its position as a major geopolitical player. The country’s support for Ukraine is steadfast, and it has consistently been at the forefront of efforts to supply arms to its neighbour.
Poland, however, has a dream that transcends politics and has captivated its imagination for years: the expansion of its borders. The deep-seated aspirations for development, ambition, and the pursuit of excellence in Poland are expressed in this dream.
And for this, it has often eyed Ukraine. And guess what? It appears Ukraine and Poland have finally reached a common consensus. We all know for defeating Russia, Zelensky can go to any extent and his desperation to drag NATO into the Ukrainian battleground could very soon get fulfilled by Poland.
Zelensky wants an extended Poland!
According to several media reports, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky met his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda in Warsaw, during his first official visit to Poland since the beginning of hostilities between Russia and Ukraine in February 2022.

During their meeting, Zelensky expressed gratitude towards Poland, stating, “You have stood shoulder to shoulder with us, and we are grateful for it. There should be no borders in political, economic and – especially important – in historical terms” between the two countries.
The Polish President, Andrzej Duda, acknowledged Zelensky’s gratitude and emphasized the importance of strengthening Ukraine’s military potential through additional security guarantees.
The pledge of support from Poland did not stop there; Duda also promised to send all of Poland’s MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine “in the future,” building on their previous commitment of 14 of these Soviet-made jets.

A little talk of history
This is no hidden fact that Western Ukraine has several territories which were once part of Poland. For centuries, several western Ukrainian territories were part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, a vast empire stretching across much of Eastern Europe.
However, many of these areas were ruled by various foreign nations, such as Russia and Austria-Hungary, after the partition of Poland in the late 18th century. The Polish-Ukrainian War, which broke out in the wake of World War I and resulted in the establishment of the Second Polish Republic, brought new difficulties and changes to it.
But, this time was characterized by tension and hostility, including the Holocaust committed by Ukrainian nationalists against the Poles in Volhynia during World War II.
Since Ukraine currently occupies these Polish territories, their shared history has left a delicate balance between cooperation and tensions.
This is primarily why the Russian leadership keeps making alarming claims about Poland’s alleged plans to annex territories in western Ukraine. The Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) director Sergei Naryshkin is the latest to echo this assertion, but he is not alone.
The notion of Poland absorbing Ukraine has recently come up several times, according to Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev has expressed concern about Warsaw’s “moves to seize western Ukrainian territories.”
Although these allegations are absurd and unfounded, they serve as a worrying reminder of the instability and unpredictability that exist in the area. These Russian leaders’ statements strike the Polish-Ukrainian relationship like a dagger, clouding any strides toward peace and stability with suspicion and mistrust.
And honestly, you can’t trust Poland when it comes to its vested interests. Poland has been known for playing a double-edged game. On one hand, Poland openly lambasts allies like US and Russia. Whereas, on the other hand, it is often seen dancing or dealing with them covertly. Poland is basically the Turkey of Eastern Europe.

Zelensky’s gain?
Now, the question arises here: what will Ukraine gain if Poland gets eager to annex Western Ukraine? The answer is a direct front for a war between NATO and Russia.
This remained a well-chronicled fact that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recognizes that he cannot stand before Russia’s aggression. With a clear understanding of the importance of collective security, Zelensky has expressed his strong desire for Ukraine to join NATO.
By becoming a member of the alliance, Ukraine would gain access to a powerful network of military and diplomatic support, strengthening its position and ability to defend against Russian aggression. And Poland is a member of NATO.
If one remembers, just a few months ago, Ukraine fired a missile into Polish territory and pushed the blame onto Russia so that Article 5 of NATO could be invoked.
The Ukrainian dictator has been eager to provoke NATO into direct conflict and so, now Zelensky has offered Poland to do whatever it wants to. A concession, a deal which could eventually turn into a NATO-Russia war for Ukraine.
