Is West Asia on Edge as US Military Action Against Iran Appears Imminent? Know the Reasons

West Asia is on the brink of a major military escalation as multiple reports indicate that a US intervention against Iran may be imminent. A Reuters report, citing two European officials, said that a US military strike on Iran is likely, with one official suggesting it could happen within the next 24 hours. An Israeli official also told Reuters that President Donald Trump appears to have taken a decision to intervene, although the exact timing and scale remain unclear.

These developments come amid rising tensions following widespread protests inside Iran and repeated threats exchanged between Washington and Tehran. Let’s discuss every event in a row to know why the war looks imminent in West Asia.

US Bases on High Alert as Iran Issues Direct Warnings

As tensions rise, the US has begun withdrawing personnel from key military bases across West Asia. Reuters and the AP reported that some US personnel stationed at Qatar’s Al Udeid Air Base — the largest American military base in the region — have been advised to evacuate as a precautionary measure. AFP also confirmed that personnel were told to depart, though officials did not clarify whether the evacuation was mandatory.

Iran, meanwhile, has issued strong warnings. Reuters reported that Tehran has warned countries hosting US troops — including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Turkey — that American bases on their soil would be targeted if the US launches an attack. Senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Shamkhani, warned President Trump to remember the destruction caused to the US-run Al Udeid base during earlier missile strikes, saying Iran has both the will and capability to respond to any aggression.

In response to the growing risk, Gulf countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman have reportedly launched diplomatic efforts to prevent military action, according to CNN.

Tehran Under Tension as Military Readiness Increases

Inside Iran, the situation remains tense and heavy. A Tehran resident told CNN that the atmosphere in the capital is “extremely heavy and traumatizing,” with travel restrictions in place after 8 pm and what he described as a “semi-military situation.” Although the past two days have been relatively quiet, fear remains widespread.

At the same time, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have signaled full battle readiness. Reuters quoted Aerospace Commander Majid Mousavi as saying Iran is at the “peak of readiness” and has increased its missile stockpiles since the 12-day war with Israel last year. He added that damages from previous conflicts have been repaired.

Adding to the sense of urgency, several countries — including the US, UK, France, Canada, India, and Australia — have advised their citizens to leave the region as soon as possible.

Taken together, troop movements, evacuation orders, diplomatic efforts, and direct threats underline how dangerously close West Asia is to a wider conflict, with the coming few days seen as critical.
