He started as a potential Khalifa, he’s ending as a joke

Who would have thought that the man who once held the placard of the Islamic world would end up as the punchline of a bad joke?

President Erdogan popularity: 2014 was the year when President Erdogan came to power. He was praised as the Islamic world’s and Turkiye’s glimmer of hope. He was viewed as the next caliph, a leader who would bring the Muslim world together and bring it back to its previous splendour. Unfortunately, Turkey has been destroyed, and those who had once put their faith in him had their dreams dashed.

The nation, which was once renowned for its rich culture, magnificent architecture, and spectacular landscapes, has diminished to a shell of what it once was.

Trump Calls NATO ‘Real Threat’ to America, not Russia and China

The democracy has been destroyed, the economy ravaged, dissent stifled, and minorities persecuted. The once-bustling streets are now characterized by fear and uncertainty, and the future of the nation appears gloomy.

However, despite all the destruction, there is still hope. It’s 2023, and May 14th is the day for Turkiye to take a step back and reflect on what’s truly important. The nation is heading to elect a new president, and honestly, Erdogan’s chances to win elections are a hundred to one shot.

President Erdogan: The lower popularity

According to current polling data, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the presidential candidate of the Turkish opposition, is ahead of President Tayyip Erdogan by more than 10 percentage points ahead of the May 14 elections, which many consider to be the most important vote in Turkey’s history.

Whereas Erdogan’s AK Party (AKP) and its allies are trailing the opposition coalition, known as the Nation Alliance, by at least six points in the race for the Turkish parliament. The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), which is pro-Kurdish, is still comfortably above 10%.

The ‘possible Khalifa’ is frantically trying to save his face because, at this rate, President Erdogan will undoubtedly lose the elections because of decreasing popularity. And, it seems even Almighty is not willing to save him anymore. He is only being made more despicable by the episodes.

The drama of the decade

Take this episode, for instance. Recently, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan cancelled a live TV interview and the broadcast was abruptly brought to a halt. After a 20-minute break, he returned to say he had “serious stomach flu” after two days of intense campaigning.

Turkish President Erdogan suspended his election campaign later on. Reports emerged that he might have suffered a heart attack, but it turned out to be a false alarm. Health Minister Fahrettin Koca confirmed that Erdogan had “infectious gastroenteritis” and that he would resume his daily programs soon.

Erdogan’s health raised concerns about his popularity among voters. He later inaugurated the
activation of a Russian-built nuclear power plant via video link and cancel campaign events.

Then he again went into exile for two days. The leader later returned, showing himself to be a resilient and determined leader who was ambitious to lead Turkey for a third term.

But Voters in Turkey have had enough of Erdogan’s Shenanigans. They have finally come to their senses and realized that having an extremist leader who thinks he’s the ruler of the world is not a good idea after all.

President Erdogan seems to be oblivious to the fact that his cheap tactics won’t work this time around. He can try all he wants to garner sympathy, but the people of Turkey have seen through his charades.

It’s about time that President Erdogan faces the music and accepts his defeat. So, let’s sit back and enjoy the show as the voters put an end to this nuisance once and for all.
