The international geopolitical atmosphere is changing and the change of guards in the USA coupled with the COVID-19 pandemic has had a very significant impact on how the countries around the world are viewing their options and way ahead. The USA’s allies are losing confidence in Biden’s ability to keep their interests secured. Despite the lip service of the members of Joe Biden’s administration, their actions are exclaiming loud and clear that they cannot be trusted when it comes to taking on China or Islamic Terrorists.
The actions of the Biden administration are in exact opposition to what they are speaking. While the members of the administration have been speaking for a continuation of Trump’s foreign policy, at least in parts, the Biden administration is going ahead with dismantling and undoing all the feats that Trump administration had achieved. It was really recently reported that just hours into his term, the 46th US President recounts chat as part of a monologue of a conversation with Xi Jinping, about the importance of respect, decency and honour. And if this was not enough, he also started rolling back the Trump era policy on the Middle East, in a way backstabbing USA’s allies in the hard-fought region.
Biden has also taken various decisions that would upset New Delhi too. And one of those factors is the induction of Sameera Fazili. Harris and Fazili have already been critical of India’s approach to Kashmir and the CAA. Now, this could spill into other areas of India’s domestic interests which would not be welcomed by the Indian government.
The Middle East is furious too, given the Biden administration just to feed their ego, are going to undo the most significant positive developments in the region, which could have brought sustained peace and prosperity to the region. An Israeli news broadcaster, Channel 12 news quoted “a very senior Israeli official” in the Netanyahu government as saying, “If Biden adopts Obama’s plan, we will have nothing to talk about with him.” The official was referring to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which was signed by Obama in 2015 and later scrapped by Trump.

Furthermore, the South Koreans too are not pleased with the realisation that Biden may bring back Obama era isolation and ostracisation of North Korea which will be counterintuitive for Moon Jae-In both foreign policy-wise as well as domestically given it is his progressive clique which advocates for talks with the northern neighbours under the Sunshine policy. The South Korean President’s nomination of Chung Eui-Yong, as the Foreign Minister of South Korea, should be enough of an indication for the same. Chung is a former National Security Advisor who was involved in the failed 2019 summit between North Korea’s Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un and former US President Donald Trump.
On the other hand, the Quad also seems to be in an existential threat and the members are trying to find other options too. The Quad was one of the cornerstones of Trump’s foreign policy. Biden’s soft stance on China is going to undermine the relevance and efficacy of Quad’s objective. With tensions already flaring between India and China in Ladakh, India has taken matters into its own hands and is ready to lead the nations in the Indo-Pacific against increasing Chinese animosity.
All these developments should be enough exhibits to prove that, despite all the lip service by a section of the members of Biden administration, no one in this new US dispensation can be believed and trusted to take on the Islamists and China.
